Jason Young - Murderer?

A week ago, in a bucolic setting near Raleigh, North Carolina, in a neighborhood quieter than Covena Avenue in Modesto, Michelle Marie Young was found lying face down in her bedroom, apparently murdered by blunt force trauma. Michelle was 29 and five months’ pregnant with her second child, a son. Her two-year-old daughter, Cassidy, had tracked blood throughout the house in the approximately 12 hours between the time of the murder and the discovery of Michelle’s body by her sister, Meredith Fisher.
Michelle Young's resemblance to Laci Peterson is uncanny. Will the resemblance end there?
Jason Young, the husband, allegedly left for a business trip rather late on Thursday evening, some three hours before Michelle was murdered. The following day, for whatever reason, he called his sister-in-law, Fisher, to retrieve a fax that had been sent to his house. Why would he call Fisher rather than call his wife? This is just one of several suspicious events in what has become a textbook example of staged domestic homicide.
First, we have the husband creating an “out of town” alibi. Possibly cell phone records or witnesses can corroborate his whereabouts that night. Then, we have him arranging for a third-party discovery of the body, typical of these types of cases. Then, he lawyers up right away and refuses to speak to the press.
Finally, we have the suspect’s family expressing the all-too-familiar outrage over the confiscation of Young’s car and luggage:
McIntyre said he told Jason Young to get a lawyer. He said he was afraid that police would pin the death on his stepson, regardless of evidence."I do not want my son to be talking to any type of investigators," he said. "They're not going to be trustworthy when they talk to him."
McIntyre criticized the sheriff's office for not immediately returning the belongings, which included medical prescriptions, purses and cell phones.
How many cell phones? Was one of them Michelle’s? Why would he have a purse with him on a business trip? Is it Michelle’s purse? Was this a murder for hire?
Young has been questioned and fingerprinted by Raleigh police, but officials are giving little information to the neighbors, who, according to news stories, expressed the following:
"What I remember mostly about Michelle is that her smile just lit up the room," said friend Laura Studdard. "She was so nice, and she was so smart and so pretty -- it's just so sad to me, right now."
"You couldn't imagine anything happening to a nice couple like this," said Martin, the neighbor.
I believe we have heard this song before.
Let’s look at the facts so far:
- No sign of forced entry into the home.
- Victim found in the couple’s bedroom.
- Investigators insist that it was not a “random act of violence” but fail to elaborate.
- The house wasn’t ‘tossed’ and nothing was stolen, thus indicating no burglary was in progress.
- The couple’s toddler was left unharmed. It is likely she was asleep at the time of the murder, so she did not witness what happened.
- Police are reassuring the neighbors “not to worry about their own safety.”
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…stay tuned. We have a local misfit keeping tabs on this case.

Hmmmm. Was the business trip planned?
What location was the trip?
Are there any toll roads that would verify he was not still home?
How did they pinpoint the TOD as 3 hours after he allegedly left?
I'll have to read up on this one. Thank goodness the daughter wasn't physically harmed but spending that much time with her mom's body is horrible. Bless her heart!

I may have missed it, but what did Jason do for a living? Brevard looks like a small town--6.5 hours from Raleigh. On a Friday, with his family, doesn't look like a business trip to me.

It's possible that it was someone from her past or a boyfriend or a hired killer.
But, I don't know what being a cheerleader has anything to do with it.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It has just been released that Rep. Henry Waxman is planning on probing areas of the Bush Government. You can read about it here...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15657198/
Some of you may remember that Rep. Henry Waxman was trying to hold hearings to investigate Condoleezza Rice's statements before the 9/11 Commission.
I am asking that everyone call, and write Rep. Waxman's office asking him to reopen the investigation into 9/11, and emphasize that there is NO excuse not to. The families are calling for a new investigation. The people are calling for a new investigation. There is NO excuse not to.
Lord knows I have no faith in the Democrats. To me, they are two sides of the same coin. That being said, how can we not try? Again, how can we not try? I don't know about you, but I really want this fight to end. We have to try every outlet, and this seems like one of them.
Please, do what you can.

Jack Palance died today at age 87. I met him a few years ago when a friend bought a horse from his wife Elaine and we took our horse trailer there to get her. He came over (they were separated) in his jeans and a sports jacket and helped us try to load her. Extremely down to earth and polite.

Bobby Gates' nickname at the CIA was "The Little Prick". He is a pompous, incompetent, squishy witless fool. He is the total tool of the Jimmy Baker-Brent Scowcroft crowd that so horribly ran foreign affairs for GW's daddy. To put such a man in charge of the Pentagon - the one bastion of pro-Americanism remaining in our foreign policy establishment - is an unmitigated catastrophe. I think every Republican in the Senate should voice their displeasure at this choice and vote against his nomination like they did Harriet Meirs.

The husband is of course the first suspect but this guy sounds more than guilty. They just don't ever learn, do they? I mean you would think these spouse killers would realize that they aren't going to get away with it.

Michelle was found nude and sexual assault was originally suspected;
Michelle's family thinks Jason did it;

HYPOTHESES: Evil is boring. Cynicism is idiotic. Fear is a bad habit. Despair is lazy. Joy is fascinating. Love is an act of heroic genius. Pleasure is our birthright.

Seriously, after reading these comments, are you really that dumb and why would you comment about something you know *nothing* about. Here are some *facts* from someone very close to the young family - from someone who loves Jason, Michelle, and their daughter.
1) The business trip was planned. He is in sales and routinely has business trips.
2) Despite the morons in the Wake. Co. Sheriffs Dept. releasing of false details, no the trip wasn't to Brevard, NC for the business portion. The trip was out of state for a business meeting. At the conclusion of the trip, he had planned to swing by and visit his parents in Brevard for the night.
3) What purse and cell phone in the car tha were Michelles? Get a brain that functions. Here is a young man that upon arriving at his mother's house, learns that his wife and unborn son are dead and presumably murdered. If that were you, would you then just hop back in the car and drive 5 hours to raleigh on your own? Family members drove him and it was their purses, cell phones, etc... that were in the vehicle when it was impounded.
4) If any of our spouses died under suspicious circumstances, we would be court ordered to submit DNA. This is called exclusionary evidence. In the case that happened to you, would you want the general public to assume you were guilty because you had to submit exclusionary evidence?
5) Wake Co. Sheriff Donnie Harrison was just days from an election when this murder occurred. Is it possible, rather than admitting he had a homicidal maniac running around on his hands and that he hadn't kept people in this affluent neighborhood safe, it was much easier to tell the public this wasn't random and there was no cause for alarm? Afterall, he really wanted to be re-elected.
Finally - as to no signs of forced entry. Again, this was a very *safe* neighborhood. I think its quite possible she either didn't think it necessary to lock the door or forgot to.
Lastly, the infamous fax. first, it wasn't a fax at all, it was a computer print out. Second, it was something he'd sent to the computer to be printed out regarding something Michelle wanted for a gift, presumably for Christmas. That is why he called her sister to pick it up and not Michelle. It was a surprise. Oh by the way, the sister had functioned as the couple's nanny and had a key to the house and often took care of their dog, their child, and did other errands for them. It was very normal for either of them to call her to pick something up.
Lastly, as to the comments of a "neighbor"
- divorce - lol about that. You guys know a divorce would be public record, right? This was a young couple in love. There was no divorce, or talk of divorce.
-Michelle was found fully clothed in a sweatsuit per her sister who found the body.
-The family has not been notified of any 15 year old person in the neighborhood of interest. This "neighbor" also posted that the 15 year old took care of their dog and that's also not true. Seems the "neighbor" has soem problems with telling the truth and just wants attention.
If Michelle's family thinks Jason did it, why would they allow him to stay in their home?
The family dog is very quiet and laid back. He never barks and wasn't a protective dog. According to the 911 tape, the dog was "freaking out" when the sister arrived. It is also quite possible the dog did freak out and no one heard him - large houses, large lots - houses spaced out. ever considered that?
It is a pathetic, pathetic sign of an ignorant society when people who know nothing about those involved with this situation choose to comment. Its even sadder when the comments are so dumb and completely unfounded. The Young family has suffered enough at the hands of the press and a sheriff's department seemingly incapable of doing their jobs. Jason young has lost the love of his life and is devastated. I hope no one ever has to walk a mile in his shoes to face the loss and devastation he now faces, but perhaps it would be a good lesson to us all. Ever heard of people in glass houses? If this happened to this couple in this neighborhood, it could happen to anyone anywhere. Hmmm, now you have the facts. Does that change things a little. Not quite so sure its a duck anymore?
Posted by: are you guys really that dumb??? | November 13, 2006 12:42 AM
No, we're not dumb.
Thanks for that very informative comment.
I'm gonna wait and see.
Posted by: loretta | November 13, 2006 12:46 AM
By the way, there has never been any info released as to if this was a burglary or not. As you may recall from the 911 tape, the sister says repeatedly that "this house just doesn't look right." So, sure sounds like something caught her eye when she entered the home. Burglary would have to be a strong possibility and the police have not ruled that out. Get your facts straight. Also, might want to change your headline as:
Jason Young- Murderer?
looks an awful lot like slander.
Posted by: really, are you that dumb? | November 13, 2006 12:47 AM
No, it's a question that lots of people are asking right now.
Posted by: loretta | November 13, 2006 12:49 AM
Plus, it wouldn't be uncommon for the perp to stage a burglary.
I can cite a number of cases where that occurred in a domestic homicide.

Happy birthday, Loretta, and much happiness.
Posted by: Deege | November 13, 2006 12:52 AM
raytd:
I can understand your frustration. I will freely admit that we are not always right, and we do appreciate the info. There are many crime forums on which much erroneous information, speculation, and rumour abound.
We read, we brainstorm, we google, we speculate. We also apologize if proven wrong.
No sense flying off the handle at us.
Posted by: vero | November 13, 2006 01:03 AM
Lastly, the infamous fax. first, it wasn't a fax at all, it was a computer print out. Second, it was something he'd sent to the computer to be printed out regarding something Michelle wanted for a gift, presumably for Christmas.
That is why he called her sister to pick it up and not Michelle. It was a surprise.
Why take the chance of her reading it at all? Makes no sense.
Oh by the way, the sister had functioned as the couple's nanny and had a key to the house and often took care of their dog, their child, and did other errands for them. It was very normal for either of them to call her to pick something up.
Then why did she say on the 911 call that it was a fluke for her to be there at the house? Odd thing to say, isn't it? If she was the nanny, why would she think Michelle would be at work? Wouldn't she be watching their child?
I understand you might be a bit close to the situation but others are not and are looking at it from another perspective and have questions as I am sure LE does as well.

Ok, there are going to be lots of defense theories bandied about here and elsewhere. There hasn't even been an arrest yet, so I know there is nothing BUT reasonable doubt in this case so far.
However, yer gonna have to come up with something better than that!
Thanks for your points, CG. I still don't know WHY Michelle wasn't missed at work right away or that her child's caregiver was not calling. They might have called a few times and not gotten an answer.
I also wonder if Jason had Michelle's cell phone. I'm not necessarily taking the word of an anonymous poster for much of anything.

I'm just perplexed as to why he would send a document to print (or fax) to his home when he was out of town and then ask his SIL to retrieve it. Especially if it was about a surprise gift for his wife. Come on. I work from home and have made arrangements to get things printed or faxed elsewhere if I needed them and I sure wouldn't take a chance on having a surprise found out by accident when there are many alternatives.
LE will automatically think he wanted the SIL to discover his wife and until he is elimatated as a suspect, that's the way it will be viewed.
I would think that when Michelle didn't show up for work someone would have called the house or tried to contact the husband's cell phone. If, as raytd says, he was in sales and it was common for him to take business trips, I would think his cell would be listed as an emergency number. All that will be investigated.
Of course the husband is always the suspect. LE has to work outward from the victim.
Victimology also comes into play. Michelle isn't a high risk victim being at home in a safe neighborhood, so they have to rule him out. Why would he lawyer up immediately and have to have a SW to get his DNA, fingerprints and hair when LE needs that so they can find out if there is any strange DNA, etc in the home. He should have volunteered that immediately. He's making himself look suspicious, IMHO.

I can only hope that one day you walk a mile in the young family's shoes and feel what its like to be judged and commented on by a public that knows *nothing*. I can only hope one day you feel the pain unjust and malicious accusations have caused. You want justice for Michelle? You don't know michelle. You didn't love michelle and the young family as their friends and families do. I promise you, there is no justice for Michelle while her husband is being wrongly "accused" by a very ignorant, uneducated general public while some maniac is walking around scott free. Where is the justice there.
yes, the sister says it was a fluke - *on that day* for her to be there - ie she wasn't scheduled to care for the dog or the child. Yes, she was the nanny when the child was a baby and when the couple needed a nanny during trips, etc..., but the child went to nursery school, so on that particular day that is where she would have normally gone. Is it normal for nursery schools to call when a child does'nt show up for school? Absolutely not. Do your children's schools call if they don't come in? Nope, the norm is to consider they're sick at home or something has come up.
I wonder, all of you who have sat in judgement here, will you be the first ones on the apology bandwagon when the truth does come out. When you find your viciousness and desire for a sensational story caused grievous hurt for a family at a time they were devastated by loss. Again, I ask, what if this were you? Were your family? You say all you know is what the press releases. Exactly - that is all you know, yet you assume 100% accuracy of that information about a family which you know *nothing* about except what court tv (can you say the National Enquirer) publishes? What is the press in the business of doing - selling stories. Guess what - sensationalism sells. You guys predictably bought right into it. Oh, and by the way, Santa Claus was just seen under the golden gate bridge handing out cookies to alien babies. Elvis was there too. Are you going to post that or run down and try to get a picture?

Good morning!
YNODBJD, it has been my experience that if I don't like to read something that the little X at the top of the page serves quite well.
Posted by: Thumper | November 13, 2006 09:13 AM
Actually it is the policy of our local schools to call the parents within an hour of school starting in the event the child is absent and the parents haven't notified the school. It may not be the case in every school in the country, but it's the policy in many.
Posted by: stacey | November 13, 2006 09:20 AM
Did you write all the local press and tell them that they shouldn't report on her murder?
AFAIK, nobody here has called him a murderer. He is a suspect because until he is cleared, the husband (or wife) is always the suspect. Get the picture? Law enforcement has a job to do and that is to find out who killed Michelle. They have to rule the husband out before they go looking for strangers. What part of that don't you get?
Coming here and expecting to find the Jason Young fan club and insulting us when you don't is naive. This is a discussion of the case as we know it. When and if he is cleared, that will be discussed as well.
If only those who personally knew Michelle can want justice for her then your ignorance is showing.
Posted by: CountryGal | November 13, 2006 09:21 AM
I would like to address some of our guest's comments:
You want justice for Michelle?
Yes.
I promise you, there is no justice for Michelle while her husband is being wrongly "accused" by a very ignorant, uneducated general public while some maniac is walking around scott free.
This is really, really, really unlikely. Statistically it is very, very likely the spouse did it. I don't think there is a maniac walking around. I think there might have been a murder for hire or someone who knew Michelle. The likelihood that she was randomly murdered by a stranger is extremely low.
Is it normal for nursery schools to call when a child does'nt show up for school?
Some do. I know that an employer would be looking for you if you didn't come in. That's almost certain.
When you find your viciousness and desire for a sensational story caused grievous hurt for a family at a time they were devastated by loss.
I don't see any viciousness here at all. I see speculation, questions, logic, statistics, instincts.
Nobody here has done anything different than what is being discussed at watercoolers all over Raleigh.
yet you assume 100% accuracy of that information about a family which you know *nothing* about except what court tv (can you say the National Enquirer) publishes?
I assume accuracy of the press? ROFL - Shirley U. Jest!
I assume no accuracy. I do, however, have facts that cannot be disputed and those look bad for the spouse.
And the rest of your condescending post will be ignored.
Posted by: loretta | November 13, 2006 09:23 AM
YNOBJD, I only hope you DON'T walk a mile in the shoes of people who have been proven wrong when they defend a loved one or friend against these charges. I only hope you DON'T have to one day back down and admit you were wrong. Because it's not an easy thing to do.
I do understand how upsetting, painful and horrifying it is to have suspicions and accusations made against a person you believe to be an innocent victim of a horrific crime. I know from firsthand experience exactly what it is like to see people I know and care for be accused. It's infuriating and hurtful. Unfortunately I also know what it's like to defend someone accused of murdering a spouse (on this very blog, by the way) only to learn later that I was wrong. Mark and Lori Hacking appeared to friends and family, all of whom loved them both, to be a young couple very much in love. It was absolutely unthinkable to believe for a second Mark could harm Lori. But he did. And so, I think I'll wait for further evidence before either defending or accusing. It's fair and reasonable to do so.

Well said, Stacey.
I think our visitor is lashing out in shock and outrage. I'm willing to cut him some slack, for now. He has probably been hearing in real life the sort of things we are saying, and thinks he has found a venue to respond and vent.

I'm with Vero, on this one. I like the inside skinny and welcome it.
If YNOBJD can take a step back and realize that we too want the REAL killer to be caught, it might be interesting to have some of our thoughts fisked (heh). And YNOBJD, if you can try not to be too sensitive about the post here, I think this will be an excellent venue for you to get out your side of the story.
Loretta, I hope you have the bestest birthday ever!!! I sent you a Man in Brown. Hope he's cute!
Posted by: Monica | November 13, 2006 09:51 AM
Lashing out in shock and outrage was exactly what I did with my first posts here, if you'll recall. It's extremely difficult to read and hear what people are saying about loved ones. But to assume the motives and experience of other posters and condemn them is sitting in judgment every bit as much as we have been accused of doing.

Very true Stacey. Listening to little Cassie in the BG on the 911 tape is heart-breaking. Michelle's sister really held it together for that little girl. Bless her heart.
I wish I could have heard more of Cassie's answers when Michelle was asking her if anyone had been there.

I had trouble hearing parts of the 911 call. But I was really impressed by the care and concern Meredith showed toward her niece.

YNODBJD, maybe if you are close to the family you shouldn't read crime boards. It is bound to be upsetting, and believe me, the posters here are some of the most reasonable I've seen.
In every case I've seen discussed on a crime board or blog, a friend or family member comes in outraged just as you did. You will not be able to stop discussion of this case, and really, do you need the added stress at this time?
Posted by: Abby | November 13, 2006 10:55 AM
Brown said Jason Young is "definitely a suspect" in his wife's murder.
"It is standard procedure as well because the husband is the first one you look at, but he has to prove he was really out of town," she said. "His family is not necessarily a good alibi and it's interesting that he had to call to have a fax picked up at his home.
"Sometimes people who kill someone and are waiting for someone to find that person to get it over with, or perhaps the child is in the house and they want the child found. That's suspicious, as well. Police will look heavily at this guy to be sure he has a perfect alibi."
Brown said the fact that there were children involved further complicates things. Killers often will not target children, she said. The fact that Young was pregnant may have added more stress to the marriage. Some husbands feel added pressure to make more money.
"Sometimes that can send certain men over the edge," Brown said.
Brown said if Young is the killer, he may have been concerned for his 2-year-old, who was left alone at the house.
"I feel sorry for the husband if he's innocent because he will be focused on," Brown said. "His family is saying leave him alone, but the family should encourage him to take the polygraph and if there's no evidence in this case, what does he have to worry about?"

Interesting post on another board:
"I copied and pasted the following comments from another message board that someone who is allegedly close to Michelle, Jason and Cassidy wrote there:
Posted by: loretta | November 13, 2006 12:22 AM
Seriously, after reading these comments, are you really that dumb and why would you comment about something you know *nothing* about. Here are some *facts* from someone very close to the young family - from someone who loves Jason, Michelle, and their daughter.
1) The business trip was planned. He is in sales and routinely has business trips.
[snipped for redundancy]
Not quite so sure its a duck anymore?"

There is something else that is bothering me about this. I know that if my husband was out of town on a business trip he would call me in the morning at home. If he couldn't get ahold of me, he'd call my cell phone, and then work. After finding out I didn't show up he would know something was wrong. Instead, he called the SIL to retrieve a fax?
Posted by: Thumper | November 13, 2006 12:55 PM
I can't find in any of the articles I've read what time her sister got to the house. All they say is 'afternoon'.
Thumper, I agree. Especially a wife who is pregnant.
Of course, we don't know any of the times--only that he was outside when his step-father told him about Michelle. Did he just arrive at their home from his business meeting? Lots of information is missing.
Posted by: CountryGal | November 13, 2006 01:09 PM
CG, I was just looking for the same thing. All I can find is that they said Michelle was killed in the morning and her sister found her in the afternoon.
Posted by: Thumper | November 13, 2006 01:13 PM
Morning, all. I have a burning question for YNOBJD: How did you find us? Were you googling for snarky comments about the family in question?
Posted by: Wench | November 13, 2006 01:19 PM
Didn't one of the articles mention that the child was alone with her mother's body for 12 hrs? And Michelle had company until 10:30. Wouldn't that put the sister's arrival at around 10 in the morning?
Posted by: stacey | November 13, 2006 01:23 PM
Wenchie, it's possible that YNOBJD was simply googling the names of those involved, seeing if there was any new information. That's how I found Misfits, anyway.
Posted by: stacey | November 13, 2006 01:24 PM
Oh, it was around one in the afternoon according to this:
http://crime.about.com/b/a/257195.htm
Posted by: stacey | November 13, 2006 01:27 PM
Again, this is a newspaper but this is where I took that from.
"Investigators say Michelle Young was killed that morning. The Youngs' 2 1/2-year-old daughter, Cassidy, was home but unharmed."
http://www.newsobserver.com/928/story/509251.html
This is from the article linked at the side.
"She was found Friday afternoon by Meredith Fisher, her sister, who had stopped by the house.."
Posted by: Thumper | November 13, 2006 01:28 PM
Good point, Stacey, but if their source is "close to the family" then what more could they possibly find on the net, but speculation (a common human trait, btw)?
Posted by: Wench | November 13, 2006 01:29 PM
Wench, for me it was to see what information had been released to the public by the police and what was being reported by the media. Of course, Lori was first considered a missing person before she was believed to be murdered, so perhaps that case was different.
Posted by: stacey | November 13, 2006 01:33 PM
Also, I wanted to see what efforts were being made by people state-wide to find her. Being close to the family makes you more aware of the immediate efforts as well as discrepancies in media reports, but it's not really a good time to sit and question them all.
Posted by: stacey | November 13, 2006 01:34 PM
Mornin' Wench!
Posted by: Thumper | November 13, 2006 01:35 PM
Not a good time to question the family, that is. It was more about being there, helping with the search, helping with other details to keep things running, bringing food, printing flyers, actively searching the canyons etc.
Posted by: stacey | November 13, 2006 01:35 PM
So if Meredith found Michelle at 1:00 p.m. her husband wasn't aware that something was wrong until after that. It does seem odd that he didn't try to call Michelle earlier in the day.
Posted by: stacey | November 13, 2006 01:38 PM
Another good point, Stacey. I am definitely willing to give any angle/information a good look.
I think the "electronic" timeline will be helpful, when LE finishes compiling it.
Posted by: Wench | November 13, 2006 01:50 PM
This one says about 1:30--so we know it was not that morning.
~~~~~~
Wake County sheriff’s deputies say the death of a woman at a home south of Raleigh appears to be suspicious.
Michelle Marie Young, 29, was found dead in her home at 5108 Birchleaf Drive, off Penny Road near Lake Wheeler. Her 2-year-old daughter was in the house but was not harmed, police said.
Authorities say a relative found Young’s body about 1:30 p.m. today. Sheriff’s deputies have not said how Young died nor why they think her death is suspicious.
Investigators remained at the house this evening.
~~~~
If he drove to his business meeting it's about 6.5 hours from Raleigh to Brevard.
No clue where and what time the business meeting was held.
We don't know what time the call was made to his mother's house or who made the call and why they didn't speak to Jason directly.
It almost sounds like Jason wasn't there at the time and the SF met him when he arrived.
"I met him in the yard and told him what happened," Gerald McIntyre, the stepfather, said from his home in Brevard. "He went plumb to his knees."
Pure conjecture on my part.
Posted by: CountryGal | November 13, 2006 01:52 PM
According to the 911 call, it sounds like rigor had already set in. So that would be at least 6 to 12 hours before before 1:30 pm, the time that her sister found her, right?
Posted by: Monica | November 13, 2006 02:00 PM
Maximum is 12-24 hours. We know she had guest(s) until 10:30pm.
Well, we don't know know but that's what we have been told.
Posted by: CountryGal | November 13, 2006 02:03 PM

"People close to the Youngs who spoke to WRAL on Friday said it had already been a "bizarre" year for the couple. State Highway Patrol records show the two were in an accident in May in Transylvania County, where their car veered off the road into a river.
Investigators said they know about the accident, but would not say whether it is part of their investigation.
Young worked at Progress Energy in the tax department. It is the second high-profile death of a Progress Energy employee in recent months."

The thing that I can't figure out, is WHY leave so late to drive 4-5 hours for a business appointment the next day. Ever hear of Tivo or the little record button on the VCR? Grey's Anatomy could have waited.
NO WAY Jason could have been "bright eyed and bushy tailed" for that meeting. When did he sleep?
Posted by: LDP | November 13, 2006 03:35 PM
And if the business trip was a shorter distance (ie-Charlotte), why not get up early and go instead of leaving at night?
Posted by: CountryGal | November 13, 2006 03:39 PM
CGal, I think he may have picked that night, because he knew that there would be a witness to his departure.
All he had to do, was go someplace, "hang out" and wait for the end of Grey's Anatomy, double back and do the nasty.
Then just head for Brevard County.
On second thought, It may very well be, that his gas receipts bust this thing wide open. I don't imagine that he would have "killed time" at a favorite haunt, so he probably just drove around, but an hour or so of driving in an SUV, would probably necessitate that he stop for more gas before he got to his parents' house.
Posted by: LDP | November 13, 2006 04:01 PM
Brevard is in Transylvania County and the Davidson River is right outside Brevard. I wonder if that's where the accident happened?

I guess there is a lot of resentment somehow between the Long Island Fisher family and the Brevard Young family which is causing a lot of the confusing statements that I see on the boards, and perhaps similar feelings among the neighbors, and the cops aren't talking either to straighten out any disagreements. We need a leaky justice system to get any reliable information. I guess the Sheriff's office is a political office and is afraid of foot in mouth desease.

Loretta, I hope you had a wonderful day, yesterday.
The estimated time of death is going to be rather interesting in this case.
Sure looks like he didn't want to be the person making that 911 call. Probably didn't think he could fake his grief well enough. If he did this, leaving his child with a dead mother all those hours is appalling.
Disbelief would have been a better reaction than dropping "plumb to his knees". I know I'm nasty, but, falling to your knees like that is too good an opportunity to hide your facial expressions.
Of course, he may not be guilty...!
Posted by: Mgt | November 14, 2006 03:49 AM
To "are you really that dumb???"
Your essay on "how to really get out of this quickstyle and blame Michelle's family, LE, the sister, neighbors, intruders, media and an election campaign" stinks of rotten fish. It's another low-life attempt to ppaint over the real writing on the wall. Your theories are hogwash and as for suggesting the Sheriff deciding to treat this murder for voter confidence is plain sick. You claim grief???!!! I don't know anyone grieving at a time like this that would even think such a thing. You ought to be ashamed of yourself and while you are at it you best face some startlin facts. I'm entitled to my opinion and your boy Jason is NOT looking good.

Not always.
Posted by: Mgt | November 14, 2006 11:04 AM
Hi Disgusted.
Here's the thing that I think is odd. I don't know how a friend who is grieving could even begin to go on blogs and messages boards and post counter to what the newspapers are reporting and in defense of a person of interest. At least not initially or until the shock of the victims death has worn off. I'm not saying the husband is guilty.
I think someone is protesting too much at this point in the investigation. Someone wearing rose colored glasses and who is NOT grieving all that hard for Michelle.
Posted by: Monica | November 14, 2006 11:42 AM
Reading boards around Cyberspace about this case, here are some things that people claim:
That Michelle didn't work Fridays. (Interesting. Jason would have known that. Would a stranger?)
That would preclude anyone looking for her from work or the daycare wondering.
That there was something missing from the house.
(sounds Petersonesque, doesn't it?)
That falling on one's knees is a good way to avoid showing your face.
That Jason dressed like a rock star and traveled with an entourage at his wife's funeral.
```````````
All relevant if true.
Posted by: loretta | November 14, 2006 11:54 AM
Okay! Michelle not working on Fridays does it for me. He's toast!
Would love to confirm her not working Fridays.
Wouldn't her sister know that? Or, what did Jason tell her she was working that Friday?
We sure need more info. I fell asleep and missed Greta. Any updates from anyone who saw the show last night?
You can here the 911 tape a lot better here:
Meredith is the one who said she came over there on a fluke and that Michelle shouldn't be there, she should be at work. If Jason was the one who told her she was at work and she normally has Fridays off...?
Also been lurkin the cyberboards. That lame post or parts of it has hit CTV, CJ, WS and other blogs and forums. Majority agree AreYouReallyThatDumb can throw in candy-colored aliens, homeless folk and satanic cults for all we care. That whole recipe and its ingredients flopped over 2 years ago because they were rotten from the get-go. We've been through this including the 'surprise Christmas gift'. I'm just waiting for the various women to come out of his woodwork. Even ONE. If I'm wrong I'll be back and state as much but I will not feel bad for thinking this way. Rockstar funeral! Don't flop to your knees, Jason: cry me a river. I wanna vomit. Everyone else: yo rock, man!
From Loretta's 11:54 post:
That Jason dressed like a rock star and traveled with an entourage at his wife's funeral.
```````````
All relevant if true.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I watched the short video from Thumper's link. Don't most people have an "entourage" of family and friends to lend support at a funeral? I wonder if it was the sunglasses that made people think "rock star"?
Either way, if he's playing a part, those shades can cover a lot. If not, I totally understand why he'd wear them. I do see a lot of odd behavior, but I have to give a little leeway until I know more about how things were between Jason and Michelle.
I think the husband is always the first to be suspected and statistically the most likely to have committed the crime, but not always.
I remember when I thought that Daniel Horowitz had something to do with his wife's death. There was a difference in that case though; even though he is a lawyer he still cooperated 100% with the investigators.
I'm still waiting for more information on this one and some verification of some of the information that's been leaked.
everything from the layout of the house on down has been copied directly from CTV - the poster with the garage door info was asked for a link and has not responded. I know this because I'm the one that posted the link about the house and the taxes, etc.
Posted by: Captain Joe | November 14, 2006 09:45 PM
I haven't read about the garage door anywhere except CTV so I would love to see a link to a news report.
As for the 15 year old - in 2005 when the house was sold to the Young's he would have been what? 13 or 14 depending - so he was old enough to "scare" the previous owners IF he indeed does have the emotional and behavior problems as has been said. I'm NOT pointing to this child or trying to imply he had anything to do with it - just sayin'......
Posted by: topsail girl | November 14, 2006 09:51 PM
I think the 15-yr old neighbor issue is a red herring.
Posted by: loretta | November 14, 2006 09:54 PM
The 15-year-old neighbor had an older trailer park friend that he played with, supposedly they built a fort or treehouse in the grove of trees out back. Much of the info on these boys was on a couple of boards including CTV and a newsboard comment section but was removed when the moderators took the comments down.
Posted by: Captain Joe | November 14, 2006 10:05 PM
Interesting information. Even if non of this latest turns out to be relevant, it's important to explore every angle.
Posted by: Nadine | November 14, 2006 10:15 PM
CTV has cut off any discussion whatsoever about the 15 year old neighbor or his family. They have threatened banning anyone mentioning it. Of course, it is easy to find the family name of the neighbor by closely examining the property records previously mentioned above.
I wish I had some good material to work with - either defending Jason or building a case against him. All the speculation and idiot blather in various crime boards is no help, unreliable, or from dubious sources.
There was a real dearth of good information in the early days of Peterson, too. I'm patient.
I still haven't seen anything to convince me that Jason isn't a prime suspect.
Posted by: loretta | November 15, 2006 12:12 AM
I find it unusual that the Sheriff let Jason take the 2 year old and go to way out to Brevard if Jason is a suspect and he has custody of the only possible witness.
Posted by: Captain Joe | November 15, 2006 12:27 AM
A 2-yr old is not much of a witness. And, besides, she was probably asleep when it happened.
Posted by: loretta | November 15, 2006 12:33 AM
It's still in the early stages of investigation. They didn't have Jason's DNA, hair, fingerprints until 5 days after the murder. Can't even begin to eliminate known prints until all that is gathered.
Hope you are enjoying your Birthday week, Loretta. You have certainly achieved loads of positive energy.
As for Jason Young. Let's wait and see the timeline of the business meeting and phone calls. That will be interesting. Although it is hard to estimate the time of death, unfortunately.
My guess would be that Jason either has a girlfriend or serious financial problems.
Michelle's sister apparently thinks it odd that Jason called her to go to the house. He had never done that before. Hmmmm
A random killing? It's likely that Cassidy would be dead if this were random. Whoever did this knew there was a child in that house. Either beforehand or upon discovery. That shows an awareness for the childs well being.
If the sister was once (and continued to be) an on/off again nanny to Cassidy, aside from her mother, Meredith is the closest thing to her that would seem calming in such a horrific situation.
I think Jason loved that child enough to shield her the best he could while he was running off to establish his alibi. Just because it was a planned trip of his doesn't mean it wasn't also a planned murder.
Nobody wants it to be the husband. Or boyfriend or friend. Or family member. But statistically it is. And so far, it definitely looks like it. My opinion is that Jason is involved in the death of his wife for reasons not known to the public yet. I just hope they can process the evidence a bit more quickly.
Here are some facts you might like to know since this board and court tv's discussion board seems to not have very many of them straight. Jason and Michelle young were a happily married and devoted couple when the tragedy hit. Now the tragedy is not only the loss of Michelle and their unborn son, but the persecution of Jason, an innocent man.
1) There was no fax. There was a print out sent to the home. The print out involved information about a purse. It was the couples 3rd anniversary. The third year is leather. Michelle wanted a nice purse. Jason wanted input from her sister and friends as to the selection and hence why her sister was sent to pick up the print out.
2) Jason called Michelle when he arrived at his hotel in VA (the location of the business meeting). That was at about 11 PM. All was fine. Jason called Michelle the following morning. Her phone went to voice mail. That was not unusual because she had a doctor's appointment scheduled that morning. It is fair to say he most likely assumed she was there with her phone turned off as most doctors offices require. He called again later on and her phone went to voice mail. Keep in mind that she worked in the tax department at a major company. It is a fair assumption to say he thought she was in a meeting or possibly had gone to lunch.
There is no person in the country who can honestly say if they call their spouse and their phone goes to voice mail, then they immediately call the police and assume something is wrong. Why would you? I often can't get ahold of my better half when traveling or when I'm in meetings. Sometimes I might get voice mail for a couple of hours. If you talked to someone the night before and they were okay and you have no reason to believe anything is not right, a couple of calls going to voice mail is not a major cause for alarm to most normal people.
3) On another board, someone absurdly asked, why Jason was not notified of his wifes death while he was driving to Brevard. Can you imagine if you were driving somewhere by yourself, to suddenly receive a phone call stating your wife and unborn son were dead and presumed murdered? Can you imagine the shock of that? Upon learning of Michelle's death, the young family made the decision that no one should receive news like that while driving a car alone. Jason was told of Michelle's death when he arrived at their home. I believe most normal families would have behaved in this way.
4) Jason young has complied with everything he has been asked. It is normal to get a court order in these cases for the spouses DNA. He never fought that order or tried to avoid giving his DNA or fingerprints and has willingly cooperated with police. People are upset he got a lawyer. Unfortunately, this day in age, its necessary because police do get things wrong and do twist things.
5) Yes, his vehicle was impounded, as was Michelles, and her sisters. Most news reports neglect to mention that there were several vehicles impounded and that again, in a case such as this, it is perfectly normal for the spouses to be one of them.
6) In the spring the couple was involved in an accident in which the vehicle went off the road and into a river. Neither of them were hurt and both walked away uninjured though their car had water damage. It is absurd to assume because someone was involved in a wreck earlier that they were trying to kill their spouse. It also makes no sense - they both were in the car, they both went into the river. They both potentially could have been hurt or killed. State highway patrol responding to the scene commented on the number of accidents that had occurred at this particular spot and said there had beeen numerous requests for a guard rail there.
7)Life insurance. Yes, there is life insurance. Both Jason and Michelle carried life insurance at a signficant level. They both frequently traveled by airplane and felt it was important.
8) There were not monetary problems or financial pressures. Both had substantial incomes.
9)Jason was ecstatic over the upcoming birth of his baby boy, as was Michelle. She had lost a child earlier in the spring when the fetus stopped developing in utero and she had to have a medical abortion. They were elated when she was able to get pregnant again.
10) No signs of forced entry. This is wide open. Someone could have had a key. She could have let someone in. She could have forgotten to lock the door. This was a big house with several entry doors. Michelle had commented several times how with this pregnancy she was forgetting things Apparently due to hormaonal changes, pregnant women go through phases of forgetting stuff. I dont' know if that happened, but I think its possible. What if she just didn't lock one of the doors that night?
11) Across the woods from this house is a trailer park. The youngs were not aware of this when they bought their house in the spring. The trees had full leaves then and you couldn't see it. In the fall, when the leaves came off the trees you could. There was ample woods behind the house that would hide someone who wanted to walk through or watch the house. On one occassion recently the youngs had called the police because they heard some type of argument or fight occuring in the woods. On 2 other occassions, they thought they heard a scratching or tapping on their door at night. Upon getting up to check it out, they saw no one/nothing and presumably thought they were imagining things.
12) A friend of Michelle's watching TV with her that night spoke of having a creepy feeling the whole time they were watching TV as if they were being watched.
Ok, Just the Facts, thanks for that little dissertation. This ain't our first rodeo.
If a stranger killed her, that's going to be really really easy to prove. If this is another Dyleski freakazoid murder (and that was a freaky case), I'll be the first to say I'm wrong.
But, at this point, I'm more sure than ever that Jason is the perp.
Gee, why doesn't it surprise me that Judith Regan is behind the OJ Book?!!
The interview will be conducted by editor and book publisher Judith Regan. On November 30, her Regan Books is publishing a book Simpson wrote with the working title "If I Did It, Here's How It Happened."
I will not watch him, read his book, or support him in any way. In fact, let's not even mention him anymore!
Now that we know where he made calls from and to whom he made them, that will make the case easier to solve, I reckon.
Geez, we even have the time he made them. Thanks to Just the Facts.
You know, if Jason is 3-400 miles away in western Virginia at a business meeting and the phone records show he made a phone call home from the motel at 11 pm, and he checks out of his motel the next morning, there is no way Jason did the killing.
Posted by: Captain Joe | November 15, 2006 11:42 AM
One quick question to Just the Facts.
Had Jason already been to his business meeting, or did he arrive at his parents house before the meeting?
Because I would like to know if he left home around midnight and why? Why so early when he could have got some sleep, first?
Posted by: Mgt | November 15, 2006 12:10 PM
Yes, Captain Joe, I am an insider.
Loretta, I have no clue how many "rodeos" you've been to, but one would assume you'd want complete information before forming such a strong opinion. I don't know if a stranger killed her or if it was someone she knew. I do know it wasn't Jason.
Michelle's very best friends have stood in staunch defense of Jason Young. Do you not think if there was a problem between them her very best friends wouldn't have picked up on it or she would have talked to them about it?
What would his motive be? There weren't money problems. He was ecstatic she was pregnant? What did killing her achieve. How did it benefit him? There is no motive.
Re: hired killers, if you were going to hire killers, wouldn't it be smarter to have them actually break into the house (ie... forced entry?)
Re: Mgt's questions. Jason left home Thur. Pm to go to Va. I do not know the exact time he left but know it was in the evening. He had a meeting there Fri. AM. He checked into a hotel there and called Michelle at around 11 PM that night when he had arrived. He spoke to her and all was fine. He had his meeting Fri. Am and then as had been previously planned, drove to western NC to his mom's house where he'd planned to have a short visit and spend the night before returning to Raleigh the next day. People are very confused over the sequence there because the press has published so many different things. He went to VA, spent the night, had a meeting in the AM, then as planned drove to Brevard. It was while he was enroute to Brevard that his mother received the phone call about Michelle's death. Jason was told when he arrived at her home. The family elected not to give someone that kind of news while they were driving and alone.
If you have questions I can answer, I will try. It is important the truth be told as this is an innocent man.
It is my personal opinion that the police know this as the past 2 days they have issued rather strong statements compared to their initial ones stating that Jason Young is not a suspect. I believe they have other suspects in mind, but it has probably been helpful to their investigation for everyone to think they're focused on him.
Posted by: Just the facts | November 15, 2006 12:27 PM
JTF can you tell us if Jason's appointment was in western Virginia, that would seem to make sense of Jason's travels. If that is true, he was 350-400 miles away from the scene at the time of the murder, impossible to drive within the time constraints.
I wonder how many sex offenders live in the trailer park?
Posted by: Captain Joe | November 15, 2006 12:56 PM
Joe. Just because someone lives in a trailer park does not mean they are a criminal or trashy, etc. Knock off the stereotype. It's really no different than living in a condo.
JTF, many of us here have followed several spousal murders, most notably the Laci Peterson case. It's difficult not to make comparasions between the cases (perfect husband, loving marriage, child on the way, etc) and the drime statistics point to the prime suspect as the spouse.
None of us would want to imagine that Michelle was killed by the one she had entrusted her heart to but he is the most obvious suspect statistically.
We are just using the facts we have available to us at this time, not throwing out wild theories or trying to hurt anyone.
Posted by: Lisa | November 15, 2006 01:06 PM
According to the sex offender registry there are 36 registered sex offenders in Jason & Michelle's Zip Code..
Posted by: friend | November 15, 2006 01:12 PM
It has nothing to do with stereotypes, just economics. Where do you think ex-cons live, in $400,000 homes? No, they live in the cheapest places they can find...one of them being trailer parks.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 15, 2006 01:13 PM
To Just The Facts: Your last statement: "I believe they have other suspects in mind, but it has probably been helpful to their investigation for everyone to think they're focused on him", contradicts the fact you earlier stated "it's important to get the facts out there". If you're an insider and as close to this case as you claim then you're consciously going against what you perceive as 'helpful to the case' ... in letting LE lead the public into believing this was Jason.
I feel convinced he did this. Random sex offenders, homeless, aliens, burglars just does not wash in my opinion.
All of Laci Peterson's friends stood behind SP; he kept a low profile and family me,bers spoke for him while he stayed ZIP-LIPPED.
Logic works for me - not excuses or a plethora of "Jay-Buddies" dispersed to intercept all forums.
This is my own opinion, after all.
Posted by: Just passing | November 15, 2006 01:30 PM
JFT, do you know if Jason has volunteered to take a lie detector test.
Also, I really appreciate your inside perspective and information. I hope you are right and it wasn't Jason who killed her. Time will bring out the truth.
I know I would immediately lawyer up if tragedy struck at my residence. I wouldn't care what anyone thought if I did. You wouldn't even believe the Keystone Kops that police my community.
If I was innocent, I would immediately volunteer for at LDT, though.
Posted by: Monica | November 15, 2006 01:32 PM
JTF, then it is a shame he didn't immediately go to the police station and give up his DNA, fingerprints, hair, etc when he got back to Raleigh so they could identify those things and look for any evidence that was non-family/friend related.
The evidence was 5 days old when he gave his with a court order. That has cost precious time in finding Michelle's killer and put even more suspicion on Jason.
Capt. Joe,
Unfortunately I don't know what town in VA the meeting was in.
Lisa, I understand people are entitled to their opinions and that they're basing those opinions on sensationalistic news stories of the past like the Peterson case. However, can you imagine if you're innocent, being compared to that. Statistically, 100% of pregnant women that are murdered *are not* all killed by their spouses, so some are falsely accused. This could be any one of us. Can you imagine having your spouse murdered and thereby, due to statistics, being made a suspect? It could be any of us, if you think since statistics point to it, that treatment is okay. Just something to think about.
I spent many,many hours with this family both on outings and at their home. I was last at their home a few weeks ago. As per the norm, I brought my dogs. The Youngs liked their dog to have other dogs to play with. They had a nice fenced back yard so it was a good place for the dogs to play. All during our meal, my dogs kept barking. I initially thought they were being obnoxious because they were outside and maybe wanted to be in with us. I went out and fussed at them about the barking. Within a little while they were barking again. This was somewhat odd as they typically are very responsive to correction. I chastised them again. Again, a little later - they were barking again. One of my dogs was at the back fence barking like she'd seen or heard something. Jason and Michelle frequently saw deer in their yard so I thought maybe there was a deer out there. I never saw or heard it, but just assumed that's what it was. The dogs continued to have episodes of barking that evening - to the extent that I finally put them back in my car because I was worried they were going to annoy the neighbors. I never thought of it at the time but now, I do wonder was someone walking in the woods that night or watching the house.
The other thing I've thought about is this. On occassion, I took care of the young's dog if they were out of town. On one occassion we were to pick him up for them. They told us to just open the gate into the backyard and then go into the garage from the backyard door and then into the house from the garage. They didn't lock the door from the garage into the house.
If there truly is someone of suspicion in the neighborhood, watching the house closely,it would have been easy enough to know how to get in. Jason's job required travel several days a week. It was clear when he was home and when he wasn't just because his car wouldn't be in the driveway.
The other thing to think about here is this. Someone kills Michelle and an unborn child, but not Cassie? People think that indicates Jason, but that makes no sense. He loves Cassie enough not to kill her, but will kill her little brother and let her stay in the home with her mother's body? For those of you who think this was so arranged, but yet somehow he had enough love to spare his daughter and to make sure she was discovered "quickly" as I've read some post, why would he not have just made arrangements for her to be away on a visit for a few days. She often went for visits to her grandparents and aunts in western nc. Why not let her go on a visit that week and take care of that problem all together? Anyone that knows Jason, knows he loves Cassie more than anything. She is the apple of his eye.
To Just Passing, in response to this: "To Just The Facts: Your last statement: "I believe they have other suspects in mind, but it has probably been helpful to their investigation for everyone to think they're focused on him", contradicts the fact you earlier stated "it's important to get the facts out there".
I in no way contradict myself. I say that I believe that is possibly what the police are doing. I am not a representative of any law enforcment agency. I am a friend of the family and as such, since the press has presented slanted view on this case, I feel it is important the facts are out there. I don't contradict myself at all, I simply offer a possibility that has been brought up by many others, that the police may be intentionally leaking slanted information which seems to have stopped abruptly over the past 2 days.
"If you're an insider and as close to this case as you claim then you're consciously going against what you perceive as 'helpful to the case' ... in letting LE lead the public into believing this was Jason,"
Not at all. I do not agree witih much of what law enforcement has done, but I simply offer an explanation for what I think they're doing.
"All of Laci Peterson's friends stood behind SP; he kept a low profile and family me,bers spoke for him while he stayed ZIP-LIPPED."
I'm sorry you're so cynical. Jason young has lost his life with the murder of his wife and unborn son. What should he be doing, out selling the story? What do you think he's doing. I can tell you - he's grieving and he's taking care of his daughter. He's had an incredible shock and is incredibly devastated. And while it might be entertaining for some here to have him out making statements to Greta Van Susteren on her show, to me that woudln't be very normal. If you lost someone you loved, what would you do - would you want to be on TV falling apart, or would you want to grieve with those you knew and held dear to your heart - your family and friends.
"Logic works for me - not excuses or a plethora of "Jay-Buddies" dispersed to intercept all forums."
I have provided you with a lot of logic. A whole lot. Again, why stage this to make himself look guilty if he did it? It'd be a whole lot smarter to have signs of forced entry, signs of burglary, to have Cassie out of town.
As to "jay buddies" perhaps our presence on forums is because we have so much love and respect for our friend and so much sorrow for what he's going through. We are also sure of his innocence and as any good friends, will defend our friend and the truth until the end. By the way, we're not just "jay buddies", we're "Jay and Michelle buddies". We all knew and loved her too, but the wrongful accusations and insinuations towards Jason will not bring her back. They only further hurt a family that has been hurt so much.
"JFT, do you know if Jason has volunteered to take a lie detector test."
I do not know. I know he has cooperated with all he's been asked to do and whether that includes a LDT or not, I dont' know.
"Also, I really appreciate your inside perspective and information. I hope you are right and it wasn't Jason who killed her. Time will bring out the truth.
I know I would immediately lawyer up if tragedy struck at my residence. I wouldn't care what anyone thought if I did. You wouldn't even believe the Keystone Kops that police my community."
Thank you for admitting this. I too would immediately "lawyer up" Cops make mistakes. (There have been several cases lately in which people have been in jail for years that have now had their convictions overturned by DNA evidence.) What greater proof do you need that investigations can and will be flawed. People will make presumptions.
Quick question for the person who said she should have immediately gone and submitted DNA. Think about this. You're 5 hours away and you learn your wife and unborn son are dead and the death is suspicious. You've learned your precious little girl was found in the house with her moms' body. Now, where would you go? No police have called you or your family asking you to go to the police station so why would you? Who logically assumes at a time like this "well, heck, I'm the spouse so I better go give DNA..." I sincerely doubt anyone does. You would be trying to wrap your mind around the loss and to take care of what you have left - your little girl. As any normal person would do, Jason went to his daughter. He was in a state of shock and was clearly devastated. No one objected to the police impoundment of his vehicle that night. No one asked to see their search warrant. The impounded vehicle meant that all of his family members who drove him back to Raleigh could not get their items from the car - including clothes, money, wallets, phones, etc... They were now stuck out of town with no belongings. Yet no one posed any objection.
Jason spoke briefly with police and then went to be with his daughter. His mother voluntarily made a statement to police. There was not a DNA request. When the request came for DNA he gave it willingly. One would assume the police asked for his DNA when they needed. If they needed it before 5 days in, they certainly could have asked for and gotten it. When the DNA was provided has nothing to do with guilt. He gave it when requested. AGain, this is a man who just lost his wife, his son and now faced the hardest days of his life - planning a funeral for them and trying to keep things as normal as possible for his baby girl. AGain, as to the court order - we would *all* be court ordered to give DNA if our spouses died mysteriously. People think "court ordered" is the equivalent of "he didn't want to but he had to". That's not the case. As you will recall police didn't search the home until 6PM that night because they got a search warrant to do so. They certainly would have been given permission to search the home but they had to follow protocol. The court order is protocol.
When he gave his DNA certainly hasn't cost precious time. IF they found strange hairs, blood evidence, finger prints, etc.. presumably they kept them as evidence. They will either match or not match Jason't DNA. Quite frankly, if the police were so focused on Jason because he was the spouse that they made a whole case around him until they got DNA evidence that proved otherwise, then it just indicates that they were running a very flawed investigation from the start.
Its very easy to say "I would do this" or "I would do that", but the fact is, you don't know until it happens to you. So, unless someone here has had a spouse murdered, you don't know what you'd do. I'm pretty sure though, your first stop wouldn't be to the police station, it would be to your baby girl to make sure she was okay.
Well said Cpt Joe... I completely agree. Jason is another victim of this crime. He could never do anything like this.
Stumbled upon this board quite by accident. After reading the majority of the posts here---I can easily say I am so glad the scales of justice are not in the hands of any of the individuals here. Minimal official facts have been provided to the public---yet the majority of you all have him pegged as the perp.
GIVE ME A BEAK!!!
Even when it appears he was out of town and he didn't commit the act there is a comment regarding a hired killer. What the hell is wrong with you all?!!!
Jason is innocent until proven guilty. You already have him tied to a gurney with IVs in his arm. Settle down!!!!!
While I am no means an insider---In fact no where close to being an insider---I know Jason personally. Grew up in the same town and went to school with him. Our inner circle of friends overlapped so while we weren't close, we were little bit more than just acquaintances. In fact, he and his family are neighbors of ours. Based on my personal experience with Jason through the years---I BELIEVE I have a better chance winning Powerball or MegaMillions than finding out Jason was responsible for this.
Growing up Jason was the kind of guy who knew no stranger. He ALWAYS had a smile on his face and was the kind of guy that lit up a room. He laughed and cut up and had a huge heart for others. Jason was and I believe still is a class act. You'd be lucky to know him, and luckier to call him a friend.
Words will not describe how shocked and devastated I will be if Jason had any responsibility in this---even having not spoken to Jason for 10+ years. I believe he is ABSOLUTELY INCAPABLE of something like this. AND, I'M NOT WEARING ROSE COLORED GLASSES. There is really no motivation for me to post here except that I am tired of reading posts defaming Jason's character and seeing him drug threw the mud before the facts have been presented and arrests have been made. So, back off with the syringes and chill with the character assassination until we all understand the facts after the investigation is complete.
Remember--he's innocent until proven guilty. If/when he is cleared, I hope you all will remember this is a man who just lost his wife and lover and unborn son and will have to explain to a toddler why mommy isn't coming home anymore and why it's just her and daddy from now on.
Instead of passing judgment so quickly---How about keeping him, his daughter and both families in your thoughts and prayers. Your energies would be much better spent.
I appreciate the time you've taken here JTF. I'm inclined to believe that he is innocent and had nothing to do with this murder. I have a sick feeling that it's going to be another case of a young neighbor doing the killing. When Pamela Vitale was killed and Daniel was the last person to see her alive, he was also a prime suspect. The fact that it didn't seem to be a robbery made it even more suspicious. Thankfully the truth of the matter came out rather quickly. No one would have suspected the facts that were presented after it was made known by LE.
Based on just the known facts so far, I don't think the husband is the guilty party this time.
I wonder if the neighbor kid is a goth.
JTF
Are there any Goths in the neighborhood?
Was there a brown van? Usually there'll be a brown van in the vicinity of a Satanic cult.
You're a card, Nadine! Bahaha
Did anyone watch Dateline this past week? It featured a SC woman who was murdered by one of her old boyfriend's sons. She had known this kid his whole life. He had bipolar disorder and gender identity issues. His motive for killing her was he wanted to assume her identity. It was just too bizarre.
Thats bizarre, Monica. I usually keep up with Dateline, but hadn't for awhile. Thanks for that link.
Posted by: Nadine | November 15, 2006 04:47 PM
Yes I watched that Monica. He stalked her for years and she had a RO against him. Very bizarre case.
Posted by: CountryGal | November 15, 2006 04:47 PM
I only mentioned it because I was wondering if Michelle had a stalker?
I can't imagine what the motive for anyone to go into someone's house in a safe community and shoot the female homeowner dead and leave the child unscathed. Plus the coincidence of doing so while her husband was away.
I remember earlier this year when that entire family was murdered. He was a musician or some such. Those perps had gone on a killing spree, and robbery was the motive in that case.
I'm still bothered by Jayson sending his SIL over to the house to retrieve *paperwork* for a gift. If it was something via computer printout, his SIL had a computer if C' Joe's link ^^^ is accurate.
eel lah hee: Well put. It appears that at the very least critical thinking skills have been suspended. The entire discussion has gone beyond the pale.
Posted by: sydic | November 15, 2006 05:02 PM
RE: OJ. In hindsight if they only tried him for Nicole's murder and not Ron's--they would have had another shot at him, wouldn't they?
Posted by: CountryGal | November 15, 2006 05:03 PM
Syndic:
Ah, no. Critical thinking skills have not been suspended.
Just any discussion which includes Jason seems to be off limits to his friends.
One can discuss the aspects of the case, have questions, and have empathy for the families at the same time. They aren't mutually exclusive.
Posted by: CountryGal | November 15, 2006 05:13 PM
I know how the media can get things really screwed up so I don't trust all of their information. I don't think I know enough right now. My gut tells me he's not involved. I hope I'm right.
Posted by: Barbara | November 15, 2006 05:13 PM
Merideth's (Michelle's Sister) myspace just went private. I guess I should have kept that info under my hat untill I checked out all the info on it.
Posted by: Captain Joe | November 15, 2006 05:17 PM
I don't know whether Jason had anything to do with it or not, but I'll repeat what I posted earlier. If you are an "insider" it really is better not to go to crime boards and blogs. It's going to be discussed, AND a lot less gently than here.
You just can not expect strangers to have the same emotional investment in Jason that you do.
Innocent until proven guilty is for the courtroom- we can discuss what we've heard and form opinions on it.
We are not a faceless forum, Hal. We know each other and have posting together for years.
I would ask that you not use profanity, here.
I would also ask the new people to break up their posts a little. They are hard to read.
Time for a new entry - is the "He's a great guy and could never do that" a legitimate defense?
Stay tuned.
Sorry, Hal. You must be mistaking my blog for your free-for-all message board.
That's not going to work in here. If you can't be respectful of other posters, you can go somewhere else. I'm sure there are places that will let you get away with your "faceless" rude behavior.
Not in here, buddy.
These guys are so predictable. Talk about anonymous bravery as he's bashing anyone who posts something he doesn't happen to approve.
Go back to NetNanny.com Hal.
Cheers!
Naahh. I'll leave it up there as a warning to any other hypocrite who thinks he can come in here and insult us. Sorry! Go back to the unmoderated Asylums.
