Nice. You've caught the feeling exactly.
Thank God that, at 16, Son has his own autopilot. Even if it does tell him to stay in the shower for 45 minutes.
Posted by: vero | December 20, 2006 09:31 AM
Good morning!
What's with the shower thing?
Mine knew their shower was over when the hot water tank was drained!
Good times.
Posted by: Doe Eyes | December 20, 2006 09:46 AM
Your autopilot is much more productive than mine, Loretta.
Good morning, everyone!
Posted by: Vix | December 20, 2006 09:56 AM
I'm off to make sangwidges. And shop. And even...
~shudder~
...brave the mall.

January 30 is Dick Cheney’s birthday.
Figgers. He's an Aquarius.
Why doesn't that surprise me? heh
Posted by: loretta | December 20, 2006 10:30 AM
It's like you were in my house.
Hi to everyone and happy holidays.
greenie
Posted by: greenie | December 20, 2006 11:21 AM
Great entry, Loretta. You've got auto-pilot down pat.
Dick Cheney still has birthdays? I thought they were keeping him in a tank of formaldehyde somewhere under the Pentagon.
Posted by: Nadine | December 20, 2006 03:16 PM
*sniff* So does this mean I have to change my birthday?
Posted by: Deege | December 20, 2006 06:44 PM
Love it, Loretta!
HI GREENIE! Long time, hope you are well. Nice to see you.
Posted by: Lisa | December 20, 2006 08:31 PM
Hi Lisa- I keep checking your blog to see what you are up to, but it looks like you were sidelined for awhile.
Anyway, one more semester of school and it'll be GreenieRN (as opposed to greenieSN-student nurse)
I saw the picture at the top- my daughter brought home the exact same ornament today from school. What are the odds for that?
greenie
Posted by: greenie | December 20, 2006 09:56 PM
Deege, don't you go changing anything!
Congrats on the RN graduation, Greenie! Twilight Zone music on the ornament thing, too.
I'm busy busy busy this week. I'm sure everyone else is, too. The holiday crunch!
Posted by: Nadine | December 20, 2006 10:36 PM
Nadine, did you see this in the paper today? Cocktail tamales:
Posted by: Astrologer | December 20, 2006 11:44 PM
Good morning, Misfits.
Hey Nadine! Are you still around?
Loretta, haven't managed to read anything yet. Looks like something very interesting up above. I'll be back a bit later to catch up. First, I need to catch up at work. SYL
Posted by: Mgt | December 21, 2006 03:24 AM
Heh! Couldn't resist. I loved it, Loretta.
Now I know why I am out of the house at 7:30AM. I still have vivid memories of THOSE days, though.
While reading, I could visualise you with your fluffy slippers and gown hanging open. I just love you!
Posted by: Mgt | December 21, 2006 03:34 AM
Two cultures separated by a common language.
You say "dressing gown," we say "bathrobe."
Morning Mgt!
Posted by: vero | December 21, 2006 07:55 AM
Good morning!
My poor, confused parrot is in the other room talking to himself. He's also meowing like a cat. And we don't have a cat.
(We have had him for 14 years. His previous owner had him the first two years of his life and she had a cat.)
Posted by: Barbara | December 21, 2006 08:42 AM
Your parrot has quite a memory!
Posted by: vero | December 21, 2006 08:51 AM
You're right, Vero. So hard to remember all the differences.
Geez! I'm busy.
Posted by: Mgt | December 21, 2006 09:19 AM
It is pitch black. Think I will go home now.
Merry Christmas to you all. I will probably miss most of you tomorrow.
Have a good one, everybody.
Posted by: Mgt | December 21, 2006 12:09 PM
Thanks for that tamale recipe link up there, Robin. I copied it and filed it away for future reference. I'm SO procrastinating this year.
Barbara, we had an Umbrella Cockatoo that would talk to himself all the time. "Watch the register", among other things. He also swore a blue streak. He'd also talk to himself quietly, holding both sides of a mumbled conversation. After every few words, he'd let out a cackle or two.
When he wasn't spinning around on his perch doing his Linda Blair impersonation, he was quite entertaining.
Posted by: Nadine | December 21, 2006 02:47 PM
Not that the Linda Blair impersonation wasn't entertaining. It was just plain scary, and required earplugs.
When he was in quiet mode, he was very sweet.
Posted by: Nadine | December 21, 2006 03:27 PM
I'm inclined to think that I'd require earplugs to keep a parrot at all.
Posted by: vero | December 21, 2006 04:27 PM
I guess it depends on the parrot. Mine know not to make any noise until they hear someone up and about in the morning. One gets loud when I have people over and he tries to join in the conversation but he gets quiet if I cover his cage with a sheet. The other is the talkative, meowing bird but he's silent if strangers are around. They are actually very nice pets.
Posted by: Barbara | December 21, 2006 04:57 PM
I would love to have one, but, it's sort of like wearing contacts--they're pricey, and you never know when you get one if you're going to be able to tolerate it.
Posted by: vero | December 21, 2006 06:13 PM
I had to laugh about Barbara just covering the cage to encourage them to be mellow. Um, right.
Our 2 Amazons pull the cover into the cage and shred them. They're quiet during the night, but at the first sign of life in the house, it's total anarchy.
We didn't discover just how loud or crazy Ollie the cockatoo was until we had him home for a week.
Posted by: Nadine | December 21, 2006 08:34 PM
Amazons and Cockatoos are both noisy breeds. There are several other noisy ones as well. The little African Senegal is a perfect parrot for a first time owner. They aren't as expensive as the big birds, they talk very well, they are almost as small as a budgie and they are quiet. We never have to cover his cage.
He does mimic the smoke alarm very well. He does that whenever I start cooking. Now you're getting a very clear picture of why we go out to eat all the time.
Posted by: Barbara | December 21, 2006 10:15 PM
Sun Conures are pretty high on the decible scale. We have one who's former owner trained seeing eye dogs. Whenever Sammy sees someone with scissors or flame, she wigs out.
Posted by: Nadine | December 21, 2006 10:19 PM
LHAT, Barbara!
I seriously doubt you set off the smoke alarm. The word is you're a very good cook. Shhh.
Posted by: Doe Eyes | December 21, 2006 10:28 PM
I could blame that one on his former owner too but that would be a lie. It really is a very sensitive alarm, but it goes off a lot when we're cooking.
Posted by: Barbara | December 21, 2006 10:38 PM
Have you been to a basketball game lately, Barbara?
Isn't it about that time of year?
Posted by: Doe Eyes | December 21, 2006 10:43 PM
No, Actually I've been to six basketball games and there is another tomorrow night.
Tomorrow nights game is a biggie. I'll let you know how it goes about 24 hours from now.

Gotta wonder how Sheriff Coltrain, uh, Harrison is coping with the embarrassment of having to investigate a case involving a lot of slipping around, hiding from your mistress's spouse, sneaking phone calls, arranging trysts in hotels, etc. It must bring back memories.
Posted by: Captain Joe | December 21, 2006 10:53 PM
You lost me on that one Joe. Sounds like an interesting case but I'm not familiar with it.
Posted by: Barbara | December 21, 2006 10:54 PM
Michelle Young case. The sheriff recently admitted that he was messing around with a dentist's wife. He married her after they divorced.
Posted by: Captain Joe | December 21, 2006 11:22 PM
Oh, thanks!
I've gotten so busy lately that I lost track of the case. I appreciate you keeping me up to speed.
Posted by: Barbara | December 21, 2006 11:39 PM
Sounds like Peyton Place!
Posted by: vero | December 21, 2006 11:56 PM
I guess there has been a arrest and charge in the Ipswich murders. The goofy guy with no alibi turns out to be innocent after all.
Check this story out. I hope this man gets 25 years. I doubt his naive wife will ever believe he is guilty. Talk about clueless.

It sounds like he knows all the tricks in the book if that's the case.I don't think it is. He was a widower, she was separated.
He's knows what the deal is. He'll do the right thing.
Posted by: Anonymous | December 22, 2006 12:37 AM
Good morning! It is, too. So warm I didn't even need gloves.
Smoke alarms?! Pulled the bloody batteries out of mine. I know, I know!
Posted by: Mgt | December 22, 2006 03:27 AM
This is the life! Only men in my section today. They have road maps out...all sorts of advice for a safe journey, tomorrow.
As you probably all know. Heathrow Airport has been shut down because of freezing fog. People have taken to hiring cars and driving.
These guys are so funny!
Posted by: Mgt | December 22, 2006 03:34 AM
You put those batteries right back in Mgt. People die because they don't have working smoke alarms.
Posted by: Barbara | December 22, 2006 07:57 AM
We don't get fog like that, here. Sometimes it can get pretty foggy, but it never lasts.
Posted by: vero | December 22, 2006 08:36 AM
Barbara, I swear we cannot make a slice of toast without that thing going off.
Neither on of us can reach or find the reset button. So I have to get a chair and pull the battery out every solitary day! No way!
Posted by: Mgt | December 22, 2006 08:40 AM
Okay, think I will exchange it for a better alarm. Fireman cousin will do his nut if he finds out.
Posted by: Mgt | December 22, 2006 08:45 AM
I never thought that hooker's pal was good for it, either. Now to get updated on the newest suspect.
I don't have a lot of faith in Scotland Yard.
Posted by: loretta | December 22, 2006 08:48 AM
Loretta, the latest suspect has had his house "thoroughly" searched. They even removed roof tiles. Too early for DNA.
Posted by: Mgt | December 22, 2006 08:50 AM
Here's a link to a short statement by his lawyer. The lawyer doesn't seem to be a media-hound; in fact, he seems to be a bit self-conscious with the reporters.
Posted by: vero | December 22, 2006 09:15 AM
Good morning all!
Posted by: Doe Eyes | December 22, 2006 09:32 AM
Morning Doe!
I hope to be leaving in the next 20 minutes. There is no boss here, so I might as well sneak out.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Posted by: Mgt | December 22, 2006 10:08 AM
Mgt, I'm off to sangwidges soon, so, have a wonderful Christmas, and let us see you back when you get home!
Posted by: vero | December 22, 2006 10:11 AM
Happy Holiday Greetings to all.
Posted by: Deege | December 22, 2006 01:36 PM
Good afternoon. I saw Captain Joe's Sheriff Coltrain comment up there and it cracked me up.
Seems like it's taking an awfully long time to get any more info on the Young case.
It's blindingly sunny today, which is much better than the rain we got yesterday.
I'll be stuck in the kitchen most of the day and tonight. Marathon tamale factory, you know. Wake me when it's over.

Re: the Duke rape case, surely, a Grand Jury would have had enough sense to no bill in this case. This chick is a few slices of bread shy of a complete ham sandwich.
Posted by: Captain Joe | December 22, 2006 08:37 PM
They dismissed the charges today, Joe. Strange case.
Posted by: loretta | December 22, 2006 08:43 PM
They dismissed the rape charges. Other charges remain.

One would think that the laptop would have been seized more than a month ago.
http://www.newsobserver.com/102/story/524576.html
Posted by: Captain Joe | December 23, 2006 10:38 AM
Sounds as if they are doing what they should have in the first place.
Grr.
Posted by: vero | December 23, 2006 10:44 AM
And I thought thais was an odd way of putting it:
"In recent weeks, Young has responded, in part, by declining to set aside time to talk with police, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office."
Posted by: vero | December 23, 2006 10:47 AM
I don't know why this is so complicated. Jason Young cannot be that bright.
It makes you wonder what's really going on. One day, out of the blue, LE will make an arrest. Bang. Just like that.
Posted by: loretta | December 23, 2006 10:52 AM
Perhaps it was a laptop owned by ChartOne?
They probably seized it out of the SUV but had to go through some legal hoops first.
Good morning!
Posted by: Doe Eyes | December 23, 2006 11:20 AM
I think you're right, Loretta. It's taking so long, they must be gathering quite a bit of dirt.
Posted by: Nadine | December 23, 2006 12:17 PM
It's pretty obvious that he is the number one suspect so they are probably not in any hurry for an arrest. He may as well be under house arrest, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Posted by: CountryGal | December 23, 2006 02:00 PM
They'd better be watching him like a hawk.
Posted by: Nadine | December 23, 2006 02:40 PM
I'm surprised it took WRAL this long to have anything on this. Hmmm.
"In describing what deputies sought with the warrant, Investigator B.T. David said it was a Dell Latitude laptop and "evidence that may aid in the identification of a possible suspect and the motivation for this homicide to include: digital evidence, diskettes, CD ROM, material relating to data used to commit the above offense, 'cookie' data files, Internet browser logs ... financial records, e-mails, instant messages" and several other kinds of computer files."

YOU GO GIRL!
I have been on that site for weeks, nothing!
Finally, the broadcast mentiond Michelle tonight.
Silly Me, I was watching TV.
Thankks Doe!!!!
Posted by: Lesa | December 23, 2006 06:54 PM
LHAT, Lesa!
I have too! Did they say anything else on the news that wasn't mentioned in the article?
Posted by: Doe Eyes | December 23, 2006 07:05 PM
"Attempts have been made to have Jason Young assist in this investigation. He has refused to cooperate with the Wake County Sheriff's Office," David's warrant says.
~This gets me every time. why, if he is not guilty of this, does he not cooperate?
Posted by: Anonymous | December 23, 2006 07:25 PM
The LE "are looking for financial records, correspondence with insurance companies" on the JY laptop. I wonder if MY might have found out about his double dipping and changed the beneficiary on her insurance and JY was trying to change it back. I wonder if the change might have been made when they had the "accident" on the mountain road. It don't look good for the hillbilly.
Posted by: Captain Joe | December 23, 2006 07:54 PM
Double-dipping?
Posted by: vero | December 23, 2006 07:58 PM
An indelicate term meaning that he was unfaithful.
Posted by: Captain Joe | December 23, 2006 10:15 PM
Another thought occurred to me. Perhaps the financial records referenced in the warrant are the possible evidence of a payment to a hitman.
Posted by: Captain Joe | December 23, 2006 10:18 PM
Funny you say that, Joe.
When hubby read the NO article linked above, that's the first thing he said.
Posted by: Anonymous | December 23, 2006 11:15 PM
Silly me. I thought it had something to do with financial shenanigans.
Posted by: vero | December 24, 2006 12:58 AM
Good Morning,
Nothing new on WRAL this AM, they just keep repeating that they are searching the lap top for financial records and correspondence with insurance companies.
Oh, and that broken record about how Jason is uncooperative.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Posted by: Lesa | December 24, 2006 08:07 AM
Very busy here, preparing dinner, having guests around the house and most important of all, you know, being happy.
This year is really different, I even don't care about the BS coming from the in-laws (mostly my MIL). I'm LOL and loving it all.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas my Dear Misfits Friends!

Is it Christmas yet?
The weather dude says we might get snow flurries. We've never had a white Christmas in TX, EVER, so we're all excited.
Not that it would stick, or anything, but still.
Posted by: vero | December 24, 2006 09:38 AM
Does fog count for a white Christmas, Vero? Cuz that's what we usually get, right here in the River City.
Posted by: Nadine | December 24, 2006 11:54 AM
I'd take it. It's cold and rainy her right now. Reminds me of England!
