The Aladdin Factor

Earlier in December, I read a book by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, authors of the “Chicken Soup” series, entitled The Aladdin Factor. After emerging from a 10-month, soul-sucking journey down the rabbit hole of 9/11 conspiracies and research on religion, symbols and myths (an adventure that made me more paranoid and cynical than was probably good for me), I switched gears and began to focus on how I could improve my life and change the world through the law of attraction. The Aladdin Factor was one of several books I procured to provide a road map.

One of the simplest concepts in the book involves asking for what you want. Sounds easy enough. You may think you ask for what you want, but in reality you probably believe that your closest friends and family can anticipate your needs; they should know you well enough to read your mind, and if they really loved you, they would already be doing what you want them to do, right? Wrong.

How many times have you silently accepted what people did, what you were served in a restaurant, or swallowed your dissatisfaction with a product or service merely because you didn’t want to “make waves” or appear ungrateful, boorish or (god forbid) greedy? Probably more times than you’re willing to admit. The Aladdin Factor discusses all the cultural and psychological barriers we build that prevent us from asking for what we want, and you’d be surprised at how many will apply to your particular habits. As a salesperson, I’m not afraid to ask for an order, but in other areas of my life I often resigned myself to getting less, getting ripped off, or getting the shaft. That was just “life in the big city,” right? Wrong.

There are seven exercises in the book designed to train you to “clarify your vision” in all areas of your life, make lists of ideal circumstances, create a “Perfect Day Fantasy”, stretch your imagination, and create your dreams. The main exercise requires you to make 101 wishes – yes, 101. It’s not an easy task. I’m only up to #64, and I’ve been working on it for weeks. Interspersed with practical advice and tools to reprogram your thinking is a sort of cheesy fairy tale about Aladdin and a magic lamp that reads like a children’s story. Like all of Canfield’s work, this book is a fast read with simple concepts; but, often the simplest concepts are the most powerful.

Thus, my New Year’s resolution is to know what I want and know I am worthy of it. Adding passion, action and persistence, I should manifest all these things with practice and belief. According to the principles in the book, when my beliefs match my desires, when I act “as if” I have already accomplished my goals, when the emotions I feel vibrate with magnetic force, I will attract the ways and means to achieve anything I desire. Ask for what you want, that’s all; then, see what happens.

I asked for what I wanted today but I was told no. I told Joe that I was retiring at the end of the day. He said that wasn't a good idea.

Maybe tomorrow.

Posted by: Barbara | January 4, 2007 08:50 PM

Hmmmm. I qualified things on my list to read "if this is best for all concerned."

I might not get a lot of it, either, but it never hurts to ask!

Posted by: loretta | January 4, 2007 08:54 PM

He unfortunately approached me at a bad time with another long list of computers with problems. (The one drawback to us working together.) I told him I was retiring at the end of the day. He said I had to wait 3 more years because we needed the big bucks. I told him that he would be enjoying the big bucks without me because I would be dead.

Since we were in the teacher's lounge at the high school, the conversation degenerated from there.

I'll just tell you that they were talking about the cremation in the kiln in the art room so we wouldn't have to waste money on the funeral. You had to be there. It really was funny at the time.

Posted by: Barbara | January 4, 2007 08:57 PM

Gotta love that High School humour!

Posted by: vero | January 4, 2007 11:33 PM

They released JY's SUV.

Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 4, 2007 11:33 PM

I shall have to read that book. I'm overdue for some of the good stuff!

Posted by: vero | January 5, 2007 08:09 AM

Perry March has been charged with attempting to have his inlaws killed.

http://tinyurl.com/we72t

"48 Hours" is going to explore the story tomorrow.

Posted by: vero | January 5, 2007 09:18 AM

The March case is another example of when one should quit while one is ahead.

Without the in-law murder plot and his dad's implication in it, they might never have been able to charge Perry with his wife's murder.

So, there you go with another perfect example of how evil people are just plain STUPID.

Posted by: loretta | January 5, 2007 09:25 AM

Thank heaven for that!

Still, I tend to think that the majority of liars get caught out eventually. Something slips. And as, to do evil and get away with it, one surely has to lie, sooner or later a lot get caught. Hoist by their own petard, as it were.

Posted by: vero | January 5, 2007 10:32 AM

Hi all,

It's been a while since I checked in, as the news on MY's death has been so sporadic these days. But, LE did throw us a bone today and I came on to share the link. I think it is probably a very similar story to what Doe Eyes just posted:

http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=triangle&id=4909151

This one talks about blood on the car door of JY's SUV. Hmmmm.

I hope this is the beginning of the end of JY's freedom. JMO, but it makes me sick that he's been able to spend the holidays with Cassidy and enjoyed that precious baby girl while he stole that chance away from Michelle. It's sad that Cassidy may end up parentless in the end, but growing up with loving, caring people is far more beneficial to her than living a life filled with lies with her dad.

Anyway, just thought I'd hop on here and give you all that link.

I'll be back lurking now and again as more of the story unfolds. I pray for an arrest soon. We all need some closure on this.

Take care.

Posted by: Enchanted Oaks Resident | January 5, 2007 06:07 PM

Loretta, you always write such great entries!

I think a lot of people are afraid to "make waves" in may areas of their lives for whatever reason.

I like your take on asking for what you want. There's no reason not to.

Posted by: Nadine | January 5, 2007 07:41 PM

Barbara, I thought your conversation about using the art building kiln for economical cremation was hysterical.

Posted by: Nadine | January 5, 2007 08:07 PM

Dark humor has been a theme in our marriage. It's weird but it works.

Years ago hubby and I were putting groceries away in a small kitchen. We had one of those refrigerators with the freezer door on the top. He was putting something away in the freezer and swung the door open as I was walking behind him. His elbow smacked me hard, square in the forehead.

Being a guy that has Fonzie-type trouble with the word "sorry" he said, "Oh, I bet that hurt."

My daughters and I have never let him live that down. To this day, whenever we watch a movie where someone gets killed in a nasty way we still say, "Oh, I bet that hurt."

Posted by: Barbara | January 5, 2007 10:41 PM

I've found out where JY went to in VA and why. There was a gas receipt from a place called Get I market shown on a warrant today. I believe that it was a mis-spelling. It should be Get-IT market, and there's only one of those in VA, in Duffield, VA. And from a news article in October, If you read this article about a new medical center in Duffield, VA that was published last October, you can see why he went there. They were looking for bids on a medical data program. I think his trip there was legitimate, that's exactly where he went to.

They found a couple of spots of blood in/on the SUV.

http://rdu.news14.com/content/headlines/?ArID=97676&SecID=2

Posted by: Barbara | January 6, 2007 08:44 AM

Joe, is there a link to the search warrant?

Posted by: CountryGal | January 6, 2007 11:50 AM

Good morning!

I'll put a link to both sets of SW's here.

http://www.newsobserver.com/content/news/story_graphics/20061207_youngWarrant.pdf

SW on SUV:

http://abclocal.go.com/images/wtvd/pdf/youngsearchwarrant2.pdf

Thanks for the info Joe.

I thought it was intersting that the first set of SW's reference a Samsung Verizon cell phone Model #SCH-A950. That phone is silver and red.

In the second set of SW's it notes a Samsung Verizon phone and just notes silver as the color. I was wondering if we yet another cell phone or what.

Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 6, 2007 12:09 PM

Sheesh. How many cellphones can one person keep track of?

Posted by: Nadine | January 6, 2007 12:11 PM

http://www.newsobserver.com/102/story/529376.html

Here's another one. The Ford Explorer was at Meredith's house when they executed the SW.

Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 6, 2007 12:14 PM

It's probably the same two phones mentioned in the 1st SW but the reference to the color in the 2nd one made we wonder.

Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 6, 2007 12:16 PM

Barbara, about your earlier comment:
"Oh, I bet that hurt."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I usually say, "Oh, that's gotta hurt!"
Posted by: Nadine | January 6, 2007 12:19 PM
Here's a link to the phone named in the first SW.
Vero, it matched his tie and school colors.
http://www.mobiledia.com/reviews/samsung/sch-a950/page1.html
Posted by: Anonymous | January 6, 2007 12:38 PM
Doe, does Meredith live with her mother, Linda?
I have to jump in the shower and leave for a few hours. My SIL bought a rifle and HD won't let him bring it in the house until they all have a safety class so one of my DHS friends that teaches on the gun range is meeting us at 11am at the local Lion's club. I'll watch the kids while they get the course and then he's going to have a talk with Luke about guns and safety. It will be locked in a gun safe but you can't always know what neighbor's do with their guns and he's getting old enough to be taught about this stuff. BBL.
Thanks for the links Doe.
Posted by: CountryGal | January 6, 2007 12:49 PM
No, LF lives in NY.
The home Meredith lives in was purchased in her mothers name though.
Have a great day, CG. And you're welcome for the links.
Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 6, 2007 12:57 PM
Joe,
Do you have any idea which 'Hampton Hotel' the receipt dated 11-2 in the SW was for?
Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 6, 2007 01:33 PM
I didn't see any mention of luggage seized from the SUV in the SW either.
I find that odd.
Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 6, 2007 01:53 PM
That's a good point, Doe Eyes. There should be luggage of some kind.
Posted by: Nadine | January 6, 2007 01:57 PM
Safety first, CountryGal!
Posted by: Nadine | January 6, 2007 01:58 PM
Taking this one step further...
If he returned on 11-3-06, stayed at MF's that night because Cassidy was probably there, his luggage might be in MF's home and not the SUV. They seized the SUV on 11-04-06 from her address.
I wonder if there is a SW for MF's home to seize his luggage. Just a thought.
Hi Guys,
Little bit of a "hit & run". Jan still has all his appendages, but he suX at dealing with rotten trees.
As for the Young case, sorry Cap'N. No dice on "Duffusville" or whatever it is called.
Way too much "effort to alibi" to pull it off. Luvs ya anyway. (If I am wrong, you get carte blanche to rag me for life---how about that?)
Jayson Young doesn't impress me as a ball of fire. I think he married a spitfire and then learned exactly how inadequate he was.
He limped through life, the murder of Michelle, IMO, will turn out to be his defining moment. AND he BLEW the cover-up.
Later Dudes & Dudettes!
Posted by: Lesa | January 6, 2007 05:38 PM
The closest Hampton Hotel to Duffield, VA is in Kingsport, TN (20 miles).
Well, the kids came over here; we didn't go to the gun range. Big 5 neglected to tell Dave that the waiting period (10 days) had an end date as well (30) and he was 3 days over that so he had to pay for another BG check and go through another 10 day waiting period. What a bunch of BS. Of course he was upset because he couldn't bring the rifles home earlier, and avoid all this, because HD wouldn't let him bring them until they took the safety class. Catch 22.
Posted by: CountryGal | January 6, 2007 06:49 PM
Doe, according to the Newsobserver article, his step-father complained that they took all their personal belongings:
Luggage confiscated
When Jason Young arrived back in the Raleigh area, the sheriff's office impounded his sport utility vehicle with all of the luggage belonging to him, his mother, sister and brother-in-law, he said.
Posted by: CountryGal | January 6, 2007 07:07 PM
Yep, I remember that but I was just wondering why it's not listed on the SW.
I wonder if that's the whole thing? There are 15 items listed on the SW and it refers to attachments.
After #15 it doesn't have a line drawn stating there is nothing below this line either. The other had that. Just thinking out loud again.
Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 6, 2007 07:16 PM
Yeah, me too. Also, the SF mentions them taking their medications and cell phones.
That one med Triamterene/HCTZ is one of the meds I am on for BP (it's a diuretic) so it might belong to his mom or SF.
Posted by: CountryGal | January 6, 2007 07:24 PM
Looking at the SW again, it says that the Ford Explorer was being detained at MF's house.
I can only assume he went over to get Cassidy on 11-3 and LE was there upon his arrival or shortly thereafter.
Posted by: Doe | January 6, 2007 07:39 PM
Why take the meds?
Posted by: vero | January 6, 2007 07:42 PM
They might just want to verify that what was in the prescription bottle was what was prescribed?
Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 6, 2007 07:47 PM
Maybe I'm thick today, but I still don't see the relevance.
Posted by: vero | January 6, 2007 07:48 PM
Really, I don't either but who knows; maybe they have to take everything and sort it out from there.
Posted by: CountryGal | January 6, 2007 07:53 PM
Maybe they check all meds.
We don't know if they ran a toxicology report or not.
Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 6, 2007 07:58 PM
It just seems a bit much to take people's blood pressure meds. Who knows how much they cost, whether the insurance company will accept "the cops took them" as an excuse, and how dangerous is it to be without them.
I am currently excited that dear pregnant daughter is arriving on the 24th for a week in cauliflower and we will have a very first experience. Always in the past whe would arrive in a state of angst. She couldn't decide on the last visit if she wanted to live in San Francisco or Aspen. What a dilemma! She actually drove back and forth and rented a place in both places before the mountains took her to CO for the last 7 years. I have been with her many times there. She has been bach to cauliflower on business and also for her honeymoon. This will be her first really grown-up visit to my house, although she did live in my guest house when I had one for extended periods while she was surfing between her numerous educational degrees. Whe managed to do the dream thing from the beginning and the hard part was identifying the dream. She has always supported herself and has always explored. She is also a cancer and an artist and a math person and a computer person and is now at age 36 married and having a oui babe in May. Late bloomers rule!
By the way, Lynn Turner is going on trial for the second of the copy-cat anti-freeze poisoning of her boyfriend. She was already convicted of murdering her husband.
This time, though, they have the death penalty on the table.
Posted by: moi | January 7, 2007 01:28 AM
The date is already set. It's in 2010. I could have retired in 2005. So I just say that when I'm stressed at work, "That's it. I'm retiring at the end of the day."
Posted by: Barbara | January 7, 2007 08:57 AM
I hope everyone is enjoying their day with family and that all your new year's resolutions are on target. (Or a forgotten memory. No need to start off the new year beating yourself up.)
Posted by: Barbara | January 7, 2007 03:50 PM
Just got back from grocery shopping. Such fun.
I have to shop to Adie's birthday present (she will turn 1 on 1/12!) and order some platters for her party.
Other than that, it's a lazy day here.
Posted by: CountryGal | January 7, 2007 04:45 PM
I don't have much of interest to say today either. I had a busy Fri. and Sat. so I'm doing laundry. (How exciting!)
I did get to attend a wonderful awards program yesterday. It was the athletic Hall of Fame for the high school where we work. My husband was one of the inductees and our daughter and her husband were able to come and share it with us. In addition, other former students were inducted and it was just so neat to see them as successful adults! It was a fantastic afternoon.
The one sad experience was seeing the physical problems experienced by the football player who was inducted. He played professional ball but not for only for a few years. He was a running back so he got hit a lot. I think he's had 7 surgeries total on his knees and there will be more coming. He also is unable to straighten his left arm.
The price paid is not told to the young people who think this is the dream job. I wouldn't wish that sort of thing on my worst enemy.
Posted by: Barbara | January 7, 2007 04:52 PM
That does sound like a wonderful afternoon, Barbara!
How time flies. I can't believe Adie is almost 1, CG!
I decided I was going to rearrange all of the furniture in the living room and family room today. I did my spring cleaning early!
I am betting on an arrest next week on MY's case. I don't know why, just a gut feeling I have had all week-end.
Posted by: CountryGal | January 7, 2007 06:33 PM
I was just watching the end of 60 minutes; the Andy Rooney segment. He was talking about former President Ford and it got me thinking about how old Andy is. I looked it up: he will be 88 one week from today. And he's still working! (And here I wanted to retire at 52. What was I thinking?)
Posted by: Barbara | January 7, 2007 07:59 PM
Now I'm onto "Hotel Rawanda". I don't think I'll need to give a review of this one. I know it's good.
Posted by: Barbara | January 7, 2007 08:12 PM
Good evening.
Lynn Turner, the anti-freeze babe just looks cold-hearted and empty and calculating.
It actually sort of snowed here. I don't even particularly like snow and I was missing it. It just didn't feel right to be January in Michigan and be able to wear a fleece outside minus the down filled coat and Sorrels.
Posted by: Lisa | January 7, 2007 08:16 PM
Sorry. "Rwanda". (I knew that didn't look right.)
I haven't helped you out yet because I haven't seen many on Netflix yet. This is only my third movie tonight. Basketball season doesn't allow me much free time, you know.
Aw sheesh Barbara, I hope you didn't actually read all of those. I did about 30.
I watch way too many movies.
Ah, but watching movies is a Great Escape.
I love a good comedy or a good thriller, depending on my mood.
Posted by: Nadine | January 8, 2007 02:29 PM
I love movies, as well. I was a two-times-a-week movies watcher.
Right now is Movies? What is this? Nice to meet you! or Movies, long time no see.
Even trying to watch anything for a period longer than 30' on TV/DVD is difficult. But I wouldn't change the status. It is just a matter of time to be able to watch them again.
In this way, Sitcoms could become great temporary substitutes.
Just the other day I started watching an episode of Justice and another one that I don't remember the name (it is new for me).
We are on a long GAP for DH. The Sonny Channel, which airs DH here in Brazil decided to change/postpone the season period, meaning that the new season that was supposed to begin last October will begin by the end of February.
Posted by: Anne | January 8, 2007 04:09 PM
Delaying the DH season's episodes?
Anne, that comes under the heading of cruel and unusual punishment.
Posted by: Nadine | January 8, 2007 04:11 PM
Sad story.
Posted by: Anne | January 8, 2007 04:12 PM
You should start a letter writing campaign, Anne. That is cruel!
On the Robb issue - any man who dresses in gardening clothes at his wife's funeral, and has one hand on the casket and a drink in the other has to be guilty AND crazy!
Posted by: Lisa | January 8, 2007 04:31 PM
LOL, I read it like this:
The vice president will not make any public appearances, but will hunt .... some companions that his spokeswoman declined to identify.
Posted by: CountryGal | January 8, 2007 04:37 PM
Too late for the letter campaign. What I try to do is to NOT read anything about the DH's season episodes and I will watch them starting by the end of February.
Meanwhile, they are airing re-runs of those silly Reality TV's like America's Next Top Model, Apprentice (Brazil's and US) and Runaway (I don't know why, but this reminds me of KCL).
Posted by: Anne | January 8, 2007 04:41 PM
BTW, I am very curious about this BL show you always comment. It is not aired down here and I don't think it will (usually it is aired simultaneously or within a year).
When our fearless Leader checks-in, I would like to ask her about the download she mentioned.
IIRC, Loretta, you received the whole season package downloaded, right? Do you know where and how can I get it?
Posted by: Anne | January 8, 2007 04:51 PM
hey~~! Nice to see everyone here. I have had trouble getting on my blog today for some reason.
I'm just now taking a break from the second of 2 courses I had to get certified for today. One is about money laundering - very interesting subject for a change. The other is about Medicare Part D. Not as eggsiting. heh
Lauren is going to be in a talent show in a couple weeks and is rehearsing with a friend. I have to go to the store and get a few things and tomorrow I have to go to Pittsburgh for the entire day. Long drive to make round trip, but that's the plan.
I read a few articles on the Robb case. How sad and pathetic. He's an idiot. Just goes to show you, even supposedly brilliant people can be lame-brains. He's not even worth a Spouse Murrrrrder Theater episode.
Posted by: loretta | January 8, 2007 04:51 PM
Anne, regarding Boston Legal (great show, love it love it love it), I had a few episodes from someone who loaned them to me and I rented the rest (most of season one and all of season two) from the video store over the holiday.
I haven't seen any episodes of Season Three, so I'm way behind. I'll probably have to wait for them to come out on DVD and rent them in a marathon session.
Enough of TV shows.
Out for Bottles and Dinner serving.
I hope we can hear about an arrest on MY case soon, as well.
"He sat quietly and betrayed no emotion as the judge read aloud the charges against him. At the close of the brief proceeding, he stood and asked his lawyer, "Where am I going now?" as he was led to Montgomery County prison, where he will be held without bail."
Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 8, 2007 06:14 PM
Doe, what a moron.
Investigation of Rafael Robb's statements to detectives also aroused suspicion, the affidavit said. He claimed to have spent up to 40 minutes buying fruit at a market in Philadelphia on his way to work that morning. A cashier did identify him as a regular customer, but said he had not been there the day of the murder.
Robb said that when he came home to find his wife's body, he did not immediately call 911, the affidavit said. Instead, he said he "touched her face," put his laptop computer and briefcase in his upstairs bedroom, checked on the dog barking in his daughter's bedroom, and, after returning downstairs in search of a phone, found the broken window in the door.
Posted by: CountryGal | January 8, 2007 06:45 PM
Yep. Either his lawyer didn't communicate to him exactly what was going down today or he thought he was just going to walk out of there and go home. Maybe both.
Loretta, you get to learn about money laundering? Sounds interesting.
Posted by: Nadine | January 8, 2007 07:53 PM
yes, I had to take an online course and pass a little test and everything. hee hee.
With my vast background in crime-solving (ha ha), I did know a little about it. You'd have to be pretty thick not to notice the red flags, though.
Most money-laundering is done with people who are complicit, IMO.
I have to take some time here to watch the OSU band do "Script Ohio". Even if you're not a fan, you've got to love this.
They are doing a dual script Ohio tonight.
ala-h-d-nn, or al-halidin, ot alad'd'hin, how do we interpret the middle-eastern vernacular? Is this about the lamp, or about the Genie or about the ahl-hah-ih-din? We could go allah. We could go Lamp. We could go jinni, a guardian spirit assigned to each person at birth. Shoot, I know Barbara is saying dotxz of whatever. Probably everyone else is as well. There are many interpretations of LIFE as we know it.
All of the approaches are significant as well as benign. Shoot moi if you wish! Jinni sounds to moi like that guardian angel who follows each of us through this vast wonderland of experience.
Looks like the gas receipt from Duffield VA in the MY murder case was confirmed by a CTV poster who called the store and the manager admitted that Wake County investigators visited them and reviewed their security tape and JY was on the tape.
Posted by: Captain Joe | January 10, 2007 08:21 PM
Thanks, Joe!
Let me ask you this. How far from a Hampton Hotel(Inn) was this gas station? Based on your research, did ChartOne have any business dealings there?
It really seems like it is off the beaten path to me.
Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 10, 2007 08:57 PM
Hampton inn in Kingsport TN, just 20 miles away. Kingsport is also the home town for HMG, the medical group building the new medical center in Duffield. 1+1=2.
Posted by: Captain Joe | January 10, 2007 10:16 PM
Got it.
Do you think he was giving a competitive bid?
Posted by: Doe Eyes | January 10, 2007 10:42 PM
Of course we don't know why he went there. I can only think he was trying to get some of the s/w business there. What is important is that he went there and they can prove it.
Looks like Youngs in financial trouble, had big insurance policies.
http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/1133617/
Posted by: Anonymous | January 11, 2007 12:51 PM
Yep-
Sources close to the investigation said Jason Young stood to gain financially from his wife's death. He was the beneficiary of a life insurance police that sources said could pay out between $1 million and $2 million.
Posted by: Anonymous | January 11, 2007 01:24 PM
"The deceased was covered by a substantial life insurance policy with (Jason Young) as the beneficiary," the document said. "The deceased was pregnant and was making plans to cut back on her employment following maternity leave."
Oops, the 1:24 above was me.
Posted by: Captain Joe | January 11, 2007 01:37 PM
Why this isn't a surprise?
Posted by: Anne | January 11, 2007 01:40 PM
"On Nov. 7, investigators obtained a court order requiring Jason Young to provide footprints and fingerprints, photographs, and samples of blood, saliva and hair. Investigators wanted to compare the material with footprints, skin cell evidence and other DNA evidence collected at the crime scene."
Loretta was right on the money on 11-21-06 with her hunch !
==========================
The only thing I sense for sure is possible financial problems. If he's involved in this, I'll bet we'll find out he was in hock for something, and it could very well be related to that sports theme: gambling.
We'll have to wait and see. I smell MONEY as the root of this evil.
A big insurance policy, especially an accidental death one with double indemnity, could be worth a cool million or two.
Posted by: loretta | November 21, 2006 07:11 PM
It's not the property tax, or the real estate issues.
It's just a hunch. The new job, the new baby coming along (meaning that Michelle would have to take some maternity leave or even stay home for a couple of years since daycare for two small kids, especially an infant, is beau coup bucks), and other circumstances that lead me to believe maybe there was trouble in $$ paradise.
Just a hunch.
It's rumored that the policy was taken out three months before her death.
Posted by: Anonymous | January 12, 2007 11:13 PM
Hi, interesting article you wrote. Did you know the basic concept of it was written many ages ago? That is, if you believe the Bible. The only concept your book left out was using faith to believe what you asked for.
"when my beliefs match my desires, when I act “as if” I have already accomplished my goals, when the emotions I feel vibrate with magnetic force, I will attract the ways and means to achieve anything I desire..."
Abraham, the father of faith, called things that were not as though they already were. Interested? I can give you many powerful references on this straight from God's Word. All of today's Power of Positive Thinking, If you Believe it You Can Achieve It, etc etc, are taken straight from the Bible.
Regards
There was another brutal murder in the Raleigh, NC area. This time it was a father killing his 4-year-old daugther. I won't link the story here because it's not something you want to wake up to.
What they heck do they have in the water over there anyway????
Posted by: Barbara | January 13, 2007 09:33 AM
Greetings to "Just Dropping By" and others. I think the universal truths expressed in the Aladdin Factor and other books (too many to count) precede all religions.
I believe they are divine principles, but not religious. What you find in the bible, you find in ancient mythology and other legends and stories dating back to ancient civilizations (Sumeria, Egypt, Babylon.)
That's really the origin. Long before "Abraham," if such an actual person even existed. Hmmmm??
Anyhoo, the last thing I need right now is to read the Bible. I think I've read more than my fair share of it. It's not original in the least.
Absolutely correct, Loretta. It is merely a rewrite of a much, much older tale entitled "The Epic of Gilgamesh". Plainly said: it is plaigiarised.
Sad news about jazz sax pophonist, Michael Brecker:
NEW YORK (AP) - Michael Brecker, a versatile and influential tenor saxophonist who won 11 Grammys over a career that spanned more than three decades, died Saturday. He was 57.
Brecker died in a hospital in New York City of leukemia, according to his longtime friend and manager, Darryl Pitt.
In recent years, the saxophonist had struggled with myelodysplastic syndrome, a cancer in which the bone marrow stops producing enough healthy blood cells. The disease, known as MDS, often progresses to leukemia.
Throughout his career, Brecker recorded and performed with numerous jazz and pop music leaders, including Herbie Hancock, James Taylor, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell, according to his Web site. His most recently released recording, "Wide Angles," appeared on many top jazz lists and won two Grammys in 2004.
I own lots of stuff with him playing. RIP, Mike.
Monica, that's so awful.
He's embezzled most of the County budget on top of getting swindled himself. What a moron. I hope they consider him to be a flight risk and keep close tabs on him until his trial.
Katona had been treasurer for Alcona County, along Lake Huron in the northern Lower Peninsula, for 13 years. He was relieved of his job in late November, after the alleged fraud was uncovered.
The county, with only about 11,000 residents, is the third least-populous in the Lower Peninsula. The county government has a total budget of only about $4 million.
It's like he embezzled the entire budget for Mayberry.
