Outrageous! Intolerable!

This was Joe Biden's characterization of the Bush administration's saber-rattling for the past year (over faux nuclear threats from Iran) during the NPR debate in Iowa yesterday. Of course Bush and his cronies have known every detail about Iran's nuclear technology before and since its suspension of weapons development in 2003.

Despite the Commander-in-Chief's chronic, blithering incompetency, I believe the CIA knows what color Ahmadinejad's bodyguard's boxers are right now. Hopefully that is not politically incorrect. Not that I really care.

There were other good quotes I noted after listening to the podcast of the debate, including:

MIKE GRAVEL: These brave people in the intelligence community just drop kicked the president...and boxed him in!

BARACK OBAMA: [To the president] Don't let facts get in the way of your ideology!

JOE BIDEN: Iran is not a nuclear threat. This march to war has been going on a long time, ever since the "Axis of Evil" speech. And the Senate did not stop him!

JOE BIDEN: Language matters! This is not a "rush to war," because that implies there is going to be a slow march to war. There should be NO WAR. There is no justification for war!

You go, Joe!

HILLARY CLINTON: They [undocumented workers] probably made some of the beds in our hotel rooms last night!

And here is Lewis Black for some comic relief:

Yes, I now can embed videos on the blob. Yay!

I heard some of the debate.

Biden is good, but I still like Kucinich, because he's the only one with a health care plan.

I'm old enough that health care is a serious consideration.

I hear you, Vero. Healthcare's a pretty important issue.

I'm going to be weighing my final decision right up until I get my absentee ballot. The pickings are very slim, in my opinion.

Great video, Loretta. My sentiments exactly.

Not only is he arrogant and ugly, he is also stupid.

Morning!

Drew Peterson's video interviews were very telling.

Body language expert Tonya Reiman and NBC analyst and Clint Van Zandt, the former FBI profiler say that Peterson's body language from TODAY’s Matt Lauer interview are disturbing.

The comment he made about his wife asking for a divorce on a regular schedule that coincided with her menstrual cycle pretty much did it for me. He also repeatedly commented that she was "unstable".

I think it's interesting he said the same thing about Savio being "unstable".

What a jerk.

Posted by: Nadine | December 6, 2007 12:42 PM

He's textbook. The only mystery is where he has put her.

A lot of people connected with him have gone missing or died. A girlfriend's brother. An ex's new boyfriend. His stepbrother's wife.

He changes his story frequently.

He has had a police force covering for him for years.

Posted by: vero | December 6, 2007 02:51 PM

Vero, I didn't know about the others missing that you mentioned.
I'd like to find that info and review it.

No way can all that be coincidental.

Woo-Hoo! You girls are on a roll.
Esp. FL. I am enjoying this very much.

Posted by: moi | December 6, 2007 04:15 PM

I still read your blog Lorretta, and the time has flown since the Scott Peterson case. I am happy to see more entries.
I still have your book and my daughter still has hers. Hers travel around Europe with her, and still smells like suntan lotion.

Have a lovely time in New York.

So, we are still outnumbered by stupid people. People wh do not follow the rhetoric. People who ask for directions, and then, after you've given them, say, "Hang on...I have to get a pencil." People who wait until the transaction is over before even starting to dig for their wallet, even when there's a line behind them. People who think they can bluff their way through killing their wives. People who vote for Bush.

TWICE!

Posted by: vero | December 7, 2007 09:12 AM

I'm going to have to read that on Monday.

Loretta, have a blast!

Posted by: Mgt | December 7, 2007 11:35 AM

I am looking forward to hearing about the trip as well. I will be going to New York for 4 nights early June 2008, I can't wait.

Posted by: Possumbear | December 7, 2007 07:29 PM

Hey Loretta, just stoped by to say hi and happy anniversary. This crap with Hillary is just another reminder of how much I hate politics. A whole city of people "wearing kneepads" and stabbing each other!

Anyway, just stopped by for some lurking. Have a great holiday.

Hi to Loretta - To think I knew you before this blog and all the funny stories at the zone bridge table. Misfitting would really have everyone rofl with some of those stories. Happy 5th Anniversary.
Have a wonderful time in New York! Knowing you, New York won't be the same after you leave.

Spill, Luanne, spill.

As Ohio is somewhat bucolic,
Loretta's off for a frolic!
A meeting with Anne
And a friendly man;
She'll return, a travelholic!

Posted by: Anonymous | December 9, 2007 09:48 AM

Not having your way with words, Ronni, nor Loretta's, I will try to tell how it was.

PART I - Before Loretta's Arrival

I arrived half an hour early, told the hostess my name and went outside to wait, even though it was cold - I was really anxious.

A couple of minutes later, there is this very nice lady, I would actually say a young woman, with a pretty face, an awesome smile, some piercings, that also comes outside to wait for her party and we were both waiting for our parties for almost 20 minutes, side by side.

I thought to myself, "she looks really nice, friendly, she could be a Misfit".

She smiled at me, I smiled at her.

That is the really good and bizarre thing about the web: you have intimacy and friendship to real people you have never met.

So I came close to her and asked: what is your name? And she calmly answered: Geralyn. I told her I was Anne and we hugged and laughed. 20 minutes side by sided waiting for each other!

Posted by: Anne | December 9, 2007 05:35 PM

PART II -

Geralyn and I started chatting, we went inside to check our table and came outside again.

By the time we were coming outside, I looked uptwon and there was this couple coming from 88th street toward 87th street, the lady was wearing a long winter white coat, with some fur close to her blond hair,
and her hair was blowing as she walked toward us. She was distracted as she was talking to the guy next to her and she appeared like floating in a glaze - the image was of pure beauty.

I told Geralyn: There is Loretta, look how she looks beautiful! And we gestured (sorry, I used gestured as I don't know the right word in English - to drive attention).

We gave a big collective hug, and went inside to look for our table. I can tell you, from my part - I was really touched, excited and happy.

PART III, IV, and etc to come after Geralyn's and Loretta's first impressions.

Posted by: Anne | December 9, 2007 06:08 PM

Tap, tap, tap. Can't wait to hear it all.

Just got back from Vegas and the house is 50 degrees inside! Built a fire in the wood stove and just waiting for it to warm up--but now it will have to warm everything in the upstairs after sitting in the cold since Friday. I just learned how to build a "top-down" fire and it is great! No muss, no fuss.

Oh, the joys of living in Hooterville where women carry in their own wood and build fires.

Las Vegas = II International Misfits Meeting.

Sooner that you can imagine. Prepare your schedules. Frequent flyer miles already being saved for that.

More details to be spread in the Kitchen.

Posted by: Anne | December 9, 2007 06:36 PM

I'm home! Oh my garsh, we had such a great time at brunch today. The worst thing about it is it went too fast. WAAAAY too fast.

Anne and Geralyn are both dolls. We laughed, my friend was probably lost about some of the conversation, but he was fascinated with the idea that we had created this community.

I'm still reeling at how great everything was. We will definitely get together again. I'm in for whatever we decide.

Posted by: loretta | December 9, 2007 08:55 PM

Hey, it's awesome to see Luanne here! Hey girlfriend!

Luanne and I met at MSN Bridge back before the blog. We played bridge together online for many months. We had a wonderful time.

I should get my bridge game together again. I'll need a new hobby in the winter. heh!

I'm planning to go back to NYC in January during winter break to see my friend J and go to a Broadway show with her.

The stage hands are not on strike anymore. yay.

Posted by: loretta | December 9, 2007 09:16 PM

Glad you had fun!

Geralyn, you and Anne did something like Martin and I did outside the Detroit airport when Jim and I flew in for Lisa's birthday. He finally figured that nobody but a theater person would have this weird bag I was carrying. I had thought it was him, but we too nervous to go up to a stranger and say, "Are you Martin?" or something.

I can hardly wait to hear all the fun! Does Anne sound as lovely as she does on the phone? Was Geralyn wearing any of the jewelry she makes?

Did NYU keep up?

Questions, questions!

Posted by: vero | December 9, 2007 10:55 PM

Maybe it's time to start video blogging.

Can't wait to hear the rest of the details of the Misfit Meet & Greet NYC-style.

Posted by: Deege | December 9, 2007 11:56 PM

So glad you all had such a fabulous time.

I love the way Anne described you, Loretta. Not surprised though.

Even in NY, the energy of three misfits getting together must have been noticeable!

Throw them all out. Everyone out of the pool.

Don't look at me about Kucinich. They're all corrupt. Everyone OUT of the pool.

After what I read today, I have no use for any of them.

I think it's pretty safe to compare politics and presidential elections like trying to win something good at the carnival.

No matter what or who you pick to try your luck with, it's all rigged. You're gonna get screwed.

Posted by: Nadine | December 10, 2007 06:42 PM

Hi Loretta - so glad you're blogging again. It's been lonely out here on the porch.

Posted by: Kneasles | December 10, 2007 11:06 PM

Really. Cap'n Joe's guy hasn't worked out so well, either.

On a good note, the young man I know who was over in Iraq with the Marines is on home soil, and will be back in TX on the 16th. We are organizing a party to go and meet him at the airport. His mother told me, "I'll be by the baggage carousel with a sign that says, 'my hero'. Y'all are welcome to join me."

Brendan said, "Hell, yeah!" This young man is Brendan's best friend.

Is there no-one in politics who is just a good person who wants their country to be great. Scheming buggers, the lot of them!

Posted by: Mgt | December 11, 2007 07:49 AM

10 Steps to Fascism:

Naomi Wolf, author of The End of America.

1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy.
2. Create secret prisons where torture takes place.
3. Develop a thug caste or paramilitary force not answerable to citizens.
4. Set up an internal surveillance system.
5. Harass citizens' groups.
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release.
7. Target key individuals.
8. Control the press.
9. Declare all dissent to be treason.
10. Suspend the rule of law.

"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to it's true principles. It is true that in the mean time we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war & long oppressions of enormous public debt. ... If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, & then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are the stake. Better luck, therefore, to us all; and health, happiness, & friendly salutations to yourself."
